I have the opportunity to buy a Colt MT 6400 at a good price. Does anybody out there own one? Or shot one? I would like pro's or cons on the rifle? Thanks

I have one, but i haven`t shot it yet. For those of us in ban states, it`s an option. If you move to a free state, just change a few parts and you have a 6920.

you really cant go wrong with a colt, but I will most likely get my ass chewed off for saying so but I got one before colt got too good to sell to civies

I used to own one that I un-banned. The best part of the whole rifle (to me at least) is that it said "M4 Carbine" on the receiver. Even the vaunted 6920 doesn't say that (I know, I just bought one).

Just make sure the one you are getting has the solid pins holding the Miculek compensator in place. The older models used hollow roll-pins, and the comps were known to fly down range because the hollow pins did not hold up well.

How was the accuracy of the rifle and the fit of the upper and lower? I won't be able to hold it as the sale is over the internet.

I've been very pleased with mine, for fit, finish and function ...so much so that I bought a second one when the opportunity arose (for the kids!! )

I will be moving from a ban state (NY) to a free state (WA) in late June, and other than putting on really-collapsible LMT 5 position stocks on them, I'm content with the factory post ban muzzle brakes. Mine are both old enough (and serial #'s with 21 of each other) to have the roll pins holding the muzzle brake; I've got nearly 3k rounds thru one, and haven't had any issues with the brake, using either WWB Wally World .223 value packs or surplus USGI 5.56mm.

The faux collapsible buffer tube assembly is solid about half way back, and uses a proper carbine length buffer and spring, so that doesn't need to be discarded and replaced when I make the stock change.

I have put a LMT CCH BUIS, an Aimpoint, and a Troy free float forearm on one; the other is unaltered.

Here is an older pic of my MT6400c...i've lost the huge scope and the cheap laser since then and added an aimpoint. And lots of new (pre-ban) 30 round mags. Accuracy is excellent. Reliability is perfect. The big compensator really reduces recoil and is great for the shooter, but it really sends a huge shockwave to anyone near you.

And yeah, if you are in a ban state and you don't like the long M4 stock, you can switch it out for a fixed position short M4 stock, or i've hear of people pinning an adjustable one to the length they like.

Got mine new for $1000 about 3 years ago. What are they asking for it if you don't mind me asking?

But it's a great rifle. I say go for it.

Mine was my first AR...well it was a 6700C...still have it.  Granted I've modded it quite heavily but it's served me well.  I got mine NIB for $800.  The main thing I did..and the first was swap the barrel from a 16" non threaded HBAR to a Colt 14.5"  w/ perm attached 5C2

BTW Mine had a 1/9 twist but did have the M4 ramps but no chrome lining and no evil features....

Then....

Now....and still a work in progress (painting isn't done yet)

one good thing about the Mt6400 is they left the extra legnth on the barrel so it can be threaded and still have the same legnth as the standard 6920. The pins are just forawrd of where the shoulder is located on the 16" threaded barrel.
I have a SOCOM M4A1 type heavy barrel on mine, with the collapseable stock, and it is the $h!t at the range. Everybody asks where they can get the receivers marked 'M4 Carbine' ....Just smile and wink
