That's like saying "I am thinking about buying a motor vehicle of some kind, any tips?"

Start by reading the threads in this section. Also if helps if you are more specific about how much you are willing to spend and what you intend to use the AR for.

First off welcome. To Ar15! Next what are you going to be useing it (Ar15) for. That may seam a strange question. But it kind of helps with what configuration you may want. As you are new and i am not sure how much firearms experance you may have. Before you bye I would read up on as much stuff here as possible. Now for the fun stuff. I have found that for most genral purpose usease that a Car type rifle with a 16in barrel M4 or light type profile is best. Std car type gas system. I would probliy go with a flat top upper and the std. removable Carrey handle Iron sights first. Shoot the hack out of it. Learn how to use the iron sights first. Then Work on extras. Allow a little extra money in your budget for at lest 10 USGI 30rd mag's and ammo. Personaly I would spend a little more and go with a quality rifle. CMMG is top's so is LMT and Colt (but a little over priced) Very inpresed bye Armalite. Next up is Bushmaster and RRA but both have some issues (read more) DPMS is doing a good job also. Check out the Equipment Exchange. You might find a good used rifle also. And most inportant. HAVE FUN!!

THanks alot i appretiate the feedback... My general use is hobby/sport. I been really interested in firearms and have some knowledge but not quite as much as i would like or need to buy and AR... I really like the stats of an M4 size and other issues. Also heard an AK makes a good starter rifle because of its easy maintaince and structure. Im prolly willing to spend up to $1500 just for the rifle. I am an accessories freak. I would want something with rails or should i buy seperate after i get accustomed to my rifle?  Also looking for a rifle that uses the most inexpensive ammo for i will use alot.

$ 1500 buy a Colt. See if you can find a 6920 or whatever the similar carbine is with the pencil barrel instead of the m4 barrel.

Get the carbine first and work with just irons for awhile before deciding to pimp it out. My main carbine does have a free floated rail with a light, foregrip and I have an aimpoint on it. That's a pretty standard set up if you want to add stuff. I would just get the rifle for now and take a carbine class to see where you want to go from there

+1 Colt

If you wanted to spend a little less but still get good reliability take a look at these brands also.

Stag Arms website link
Smith & Wesson M&P15 (if you don't like the deer head Stag logo) website link
LMT website link

Take a look at the Equipment Exchange of this same site and you could get a quote from any dealers there, they will ship the rifle to your local FFL dealer or you could have your dealer order it for you.

Equipment Exchange section link Go to the AR15 Complete Firearms & Lower Receivers section

+1 what Aimless said

Get the basic rifle first with either a fixed backup iron sight like a LaRue BUIS or go to the Optics, Mounts, & Sights forum and look at the tacked thread "Big Bad BUIS FAQ" and see which one you would like.

I would recommend a Blue Force Gear Vickers combat applications 2 point sling which is a very good sling to start out with.

When you're good with iron sights then get a dot sight, next would be handguard rails, vertical forward grip and weaponlight.

There are lots of info here just look around everywhere and if you can't find what you're looking for just ask the members to get some answers.
