I need to remove my locking bar from my eotech 512.  After removing the thumb screw should it just slide out or is there more I need to do to remove it.

Thanks

Should be as simple as removing the locking screw, then the bar.

ETA: Mark which side is up, to ensure the locking bar gets re-installed in the same direction.

So it should just come out to the inside, correct??

you have to remove the armored hood to get the little bar that the screw attaches to

That makes sense now.  So I need to remove the hood to get at the back side of the locking bar and pull it out to the outside of the sight.

yes but if you do, you will void the warranty for the hood and the locking parts

I gotta ask why you need to remove the locking bar? Is it boogered up somehow?

Well it sticks a little and I figured that some crud got in there and I wanted to clean it and put it back in.

BTW, I just spoke with Doreen Flummerfelt Customer Service Manager at L-3 Communications - EOTech, Inc and she said removing the armored hood and locking bar will not void the warranty.

Well then, I stand corrected!

I am glad you brought the warranty issue up becuase that hadn't really crossed my mind.  I figured calling Eotech was the best way to make sure.  She said they consider the hood and locking bar more user replaceable items as they sell them on their spare parts list.  Good to know for future reference!!

just wanted to add, I just looked at the paper work that was sent to me explaining exactly doing what to what will void what part of the warranty. It says that it will void the warranty on the hood and the attachment. I just got off the phone with them and she had left for the day but I was told I was sent the correct information

I gues I'll have to check out my paperwork too.  I am not sure why she would say it wouldn't void the warranty and then have paperwork which says the opposite.

Here is the email she sent me.  She left out saying the hood would have to be removed but clarified that when I called.

Hello,

Use the Allen Wrench to remove the weaver locking bar and no it will not
void your warranty to take the weaver locking bar off.

If you have any additional questions please give me a call or visit our
website at www.L-3com.com/eotech.

Thank you,
