I have a RRA Entry Tactical that I'd like to put a longer FF tube on.
I know I'll need a low profile gas block, but is there anything else limiting the size of the FF tube?
What I'm trying to get is the handguard to come almost to the end of the flash hider.
Thanks for any ideas.

That is exactly what I am going to do with my ORC Bushmaster that I got on sale.  The longest tubes I have seen are 12" or so, that won't go out to the FH but it will get pretty close.

Troy has the 13.5" rail.

Yeah, I've seen some nice looking LaRues with the Goose Neck part that extends out over the top.  It's an 11" tube, so it won't get all the way to the end either.  I still really like it though.

I'll have to check it out also.  Thanks!

I think that would be the one.

Here is a picture of a 14.5 + Phantom with a 12"

Yours would be 1.5" longer in both rail and barrel.

That's the look I had in mind!  Thanks

I guess the 16" barrel length I have does not include the muzzle device, correct?
Originally it was an A2, but I changed it to a Phantom.

Thats what I want to do with my 16inch Bull varmint upper. Is it difficult to do? What about the low pro gas block....is that pretty simple to do?

Yup, the 16" is just the barrel... They you add the length of the Phantom.
So I am thinking, your would look very much proportionaly the same.

I've never done this before, but there are pretty comprehensive step-by-step instructions with pictures here:

Install your own free-float rail system, step by step

Instructions about half way down first page for YHM, LaRue, and Troy FF rails.

You don't have to pull the FSB unless you want to .  MI and DD both make rails that form around the FSB.  Its all a matter of what you are looking to do.

Hey Stickman,

Wow!  That looks great.  And a lot easier than replacing the FSB.  Another option to consider.

Thanks for the pics.

ETA:  I think I still like the low profile one better.

Glad to be of help.  I don't have pictures of the MI extended rails installed, but there are quite a few members here who have and love them.  They should be able to get some pictures posted if you are interested in them as well.

Here is the same DD 13.5 on a 14.5" barrel with a Phantom.

You still have to pull the FSB off in order to pull the stock barrel nut off.  If you are going with a FF rail you need to do that to use their barrel nut.

Is the 14.5 inch barrel considered an SBR?

yes and therefore you would have to perm. attach the flash hider

unless you pay the $200 tax stamp for an SBR permit

Guess I should have read the entire Do-It-Yourself link that explains that.

Thanks for the explanation, fivepointoh.  I may yet learn something if I'm not careful.

Are 14.5 inch barrels with permanently mounted Phantoms available commercially (without venturing into SBR territory)?

You can buy barrels with the phantom already pinned from a number of companies...

or you can buy the parts seperately and have somebody like ADCO or ar15barrels pin it on.
