| I have come across a Bushmaster Ar-15 .223 that is marked on the side Law Enforcement and Government use only. This rifle is new and comes with a cleaning kit and hard case apparently from the factory. Should this rifle be more expensive because of the markings? Is is more collectable? |

Sure it may have a collectible and cool factor, but my concern would be of crossing paths with somebody in law enforcement who doesn't know firearms laws very well. who could mistakenly confiscate it. Then I'd have the hassle and expense of getting it back from a law enforcement entity that may not store it in such a way that it will be returned in the same condition as it was when it was taken. I've heard such stories over the years. |
| The misunderstanding happened to my brother last year. The local deputy where he lives confiscated his LEO marked AR, which I had given him. Being a LEO myself I contacted the dep to see what the issue was. He gave me all sorts of runaround about the LEO markings and the rifle not being registered. (In michigan pistols are registered and can be checked via computer, however rifles are not) . He wanted an original purchase receipt which had been lost years ago. In the end he and his prosecutor settled on a signed letter on LEO letterhead attesting to my original ownership of the rifle. It took nearly a month and a half to get the thing back. In short, if it wasnt' for my badge he would never have gotten the rifle back. The dep was just doing what he thought was right, but most LEO's aren't gun guys. |
I guess that all happened because some people believe that LEOs are first class citizens and the rest of us are second class citizens. I'm glad it worked out for your brother in the end. Too bad some LEOs hold themselves on a pedestal. At least they put you on the same level as them or your brother wouldn't have his firearm. I hope that I don't get the run around for my magzines marked LEO only. I know they were from the ban, but I could see someone confiscating them because of that. Is there a way to fill the markings with lead, bondo, or something and then spray them with duracoat? |
| I never thought a police officer would be so stupid to confiscate a perfectly legal firearm just because of some markings. Now that I think about it I wouldnt be suprised. I guess with me being a second class citizen, I should buy an unmarked AR... DAMN, its bad when people are more afraid of getting hassled by dumbass cops than getting robbed, burglarized, or murdered. |
