i have an acog ta31f i am trying to sell on the ee that is not moving. if i end up not selling it iwas thinking of mounting it on a dsa fal i ordered. it's calibrated for 223/556 . but ofcourse the fal is 308. is this a bad idea for shooting from 50-200 yards? not sure how a 223 acog would perform on a 308 rifle. does it matter if i'm not calculating bullet drop out to greater distances? it is on a larue mount.

I'm using a TA-01 on a 16" 6.8 SPC right now, and I've used it on a 20" Krieger shooting 77 gr. handloads.  I've used the TA-01NSN on my M4 and a 16" 5.56mm with Mk. 262.  As it turns out, it will still do elevation compensation pretty well to about 400 meters if you are shooting at 19.5"x39" targets.  Give it a shot on your .308, and if all else fails, use anatomy holds.  The ACOG is still good 4x optic even if the BDC isn't accurate.

BDC's set for a particular load in a particular barrel length are silly, but they can still be useful in a realistic sense even if they are very cookie cutter in design.  The .mil uses them on everything from 14.5" to 20" barrels.
