I just bought a new barrel for my AR, problem is when I get it the threads are too long for my A2 birdcage. I have 1/8" of threads still showing. Can anyone explain this? Should I just through an extra washer on there or is there a certain FH I should use?

Are you using a crush washer, peel washer or lock washer?

Its got nothing to do with the washer. The threads on my old barrel measure .5" from tip of the barrel to the shoulder. The threads of my new barrel measure .625". That leaves .125" extra showing.

.625 is correct. You should be using some type washer. If you are using a used flash hider sometimes the carbon builds up on the last threads inside and keeps them from screwing on as far as they should.

0.625" is the correct thread length.
You need a crush washer.
Has this already been mentioned yet?

A crush washer typically measures 0.140" thick before you crush it.

If your crush washer is too stiff, smash that sucker with a hammer a few times and it will "give" a little.

I had to file mine down a little to get the 5C2 bottom just right.

I have seen somthing similar in the past... Is your A2 FH used?  If so, carbon buildup (or whatever) from where the end of barrel starts to the end of the threads on the FH (about 1/4") may be in the way and it will be hard as steel.

There are some crush washers out there that absolutely do NOT crush at sane torque ratings (say under 50ft-lbs).
I have seen barrels wihere the crush washer was so hard that it just dug into the actual barrel instead of crushing.
