Hi there guys...
I just got my gun today and I have just been playing around with it...
And my question is...

When there is no magazine in the gun and I pull the charging handle back it snaps right back into place..
But when I have the magazine in the gun and I pull the charging handle back, it stays back... Is this normal?

Thanks in advance!

there supposed to automatically stop open when the mag has emptied... its COMPLETELY normal also it can be closed with the bolt release on the left side if ya want to close it

Yes, the empty mag is engaging the bolt catch mechanism in the lower receiver.

Please spend some time reviewing the TM for your weapon.

Thank you.

Thanks guys...
I just got it tonight at around 6:00.. I haven't had time today to talk to the gun whiz here... So I'm just messing around with it myself... And reading a owner manual I bought the other day... I guess I missed the common sense question I just asked.. h.gif

No need for the bashful face!
I'd rather hear you ask a question than just assume something.

Enjoy your new rifle, 'cause it starts gettin' expensive from here...

It stays open when your magazine is empty so you can slam another magazine full of bullets in the chamber, then all you have to do is hit the slide release on the side of the gun to start firing again.

Not a stupid question.

In addition to the manual you bought, there are some military tech manuals available for download on the forum.  I downloaded them the other evening are they're definitely worth reading.  Go to the "Information" tab, then "Manuals and Downloads".  Download TM9-1005-319-10 and -23.  What kind of gun did you get?  My first AR-15 is supposed to ship today - can't wait

Oh yeah, one more source of good info is the Bushmaster website www.bushmaster.com/Click on the Tech Support tab.  They have some excellent articles and their Operating and Safety manuals, while similar to the military manuals, have much better pictures

Enjoy your new rifle.  I'd really suggest you start saving up and take a carbine class.  The FIRE institute in Pittsburg is great and they have a couple of carbine classes comming up.  Also, West Shore Sportsman near Harrisburg should be sponsoring a course from Front Sight this summer.
