I was at the Dakota Territory Gun Collectors Assn. Show yesterday and at one booth I saw a Colt still in the plastic bag and looked about like an M-16A2 but it was some civillian model. I couldn't recall what was stamped on the reciever, if it was "Hunt master" or "sporter" something of the sort in big print. What made me almost fall over was the sticker priced at $2300. I did forget what it said after reviewing the price in my head over and over. Why would this command such a price????

Gucci gun.
Gucci is just a bag. Colt is just an AR-15...except you have to get a different LPK....but it ain't no better than a Bushy, or an Armalite, or a CMMG. I don't buy for the name...unless Springfield Armory were to make one.

Just as a DPMS is as good as anything else by your logic. Name is nothing which is why a Porch sucks when compared to say a Honda civic.

NOTE; I did not mention Olympic or DPMS or a few others, just the other top shelf brands of regular AR mfg. IMHO. Nothing against the other top brands, like LMT or Stag, I just went with what came to mind as equals to Colt.

I see. I am not trying to be a ass but I think that everyone spends too much time bashing brands for no real reason. I don't think that any of the top brands are bad weapons. It gets old whenever colt is spoken you get called kool aid drinker and the like. I like colt, but RRA and busy are kick ass too. I know a lot of people don't like DPMS but I would be proud to have one, and I am thinking of buying one. Sorry for the rant.

Because there's a sucker born every minute that will pay for it.  It's not more accurate, better built or more reliable.  It just has a horsey instead of a kitty on the side (vs. DPMS).  Pick your critter (Stag = Deer; Bushcrapper = Snake; etc.) and roll!

It's because it's one of the favorite flavors of the cool-aid drinkers.

why?

because there's someone stupid enough out there to pay $2,300 for a 20" colt sporter, and the dealer knows it.

BINGO!  Beat me to it.   As long as some idiot thinks that the Colt logo is worth a thousand bucks premium, Colt execs will continue to smile.

(Never mind that they probably buy the parts just like everyone else. I've read several places that Colt lowers are made by Stag....)

Because the dealer paid too much for it during the ban, and he is looking for a sucker who still thinks there is a ban.  If he can get $2300 for it, more power to him.

I always told myself I'd never buy a Colt Civvy model unless a really, really, really good deal came by. $2300 is WAY to much. Of course, I just spent $9k on a Sporter II. (of course, in my mind about $8.7k of that is for the Happy Switch.

A colt barrel taken off and chucked for shorten/thread. out of round big time!

won't say who chucked it or where it was from. all I know it was a colt and not that great of a barrel.

from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kool-Aid

It is also now closely associated with the 1978 cult mass-suicide/murder in Jonestown, Guyana. Jim Jones, the leader of the Peoples Temple, convinced his followers to move to Jonestown. Late in the year, he then ordered his flock to commit suicide by drinking grape-flavored Flavor Aid laced with potassium cyanide. In what is now commonly called the "Jonestown Massacre," a large majority of the 913 people later found dead drank the brew. (The discrepancy between the idiom and the actual occurrence is likely due to Flavor Aid's relative obscurity versus the easily recognizable Kool-Aid.) The precise expression can be attested in usage at least as early as 1987.[4]

One lasting legacy of the Jonestown tragedy is the saying, "Don't drink the Kool-Aid." This has come to mean, "Don’t trust any group you find to be a little on the kooky side," or "Whatever they tell you, don't believe it too strongly."[1] The phrase can also be used in the opposite sense to indicate that one has blindly embraced a particular philosophy or perspective (a "Kool-Aid drinker", or, as a cynical response to a fanatical claim, "sounds like someone's been drinking the Kool-Aid!").

In technology circles "drinking the Kool-Aid" is often used to describe the misguided or over-abundant enthusiasm someone has for their product and its capabilities.
