Gunny's first time posting...yutyut! I currently own an Oly Arms M4-A3 16" (K3B-M4). I'm looking to buy a 10.5" or 11.5" A3 upper after I get my tax stamp soon. What's your recommendation for the best, al beit, most reasonably priced upper for my specs above? Or, would I be better off just buying the barrel itself & having an armorer screw it on my exsiting upper? Can I place a .223 pistol upper on my lower as well, or is that basically the same thing as buying a short upper of the same length? Can anyone give Gunny some advice please? My half unit is finally letting me spend the bones to get squared away with the class 3 stuff. OUTSTANDING!!! Out.

Personally, I'd recommend getting a whole new upper, so that you still have the very versatile 16" upper available with just the push of two pins.

In terms of high quality, people seem to be very happy with LMT for short uppers. But they can be a little pricey.  Personally, I've had great luck with a 10.3" short upper from Model 1 Sales (I think their quality has been outstanding of late, but some people do critisize them because they quality has not always been good).  So it might be a bit of a risk to go with them, but they are definitely cheaper.

Companies like Bushmaster also make great uppers that people seem very happy with.

A "pistol" upper is usually the same as a short-barreled upper (but obvously doesn't require the tax stamp if mounted on a receiver without a stock).
