| What is the difference in the type of rail systems out there? I understand there is an A.R.M.S. rail system and Troy Ind has a different type. Not sure if there are any other types, just these are the ones I have come across. I was to understand they all had the same mounting rails, just made by different companies... |

Launchpad, there are dozens of rail options for AR15's and similar firearms The range is widely varied There are free float rails that serve as mounting points for accessories, and benefit accuracy by not influencing the barrel during firing- an ones that don't free float barrels. There are cheap ones, expensive ones, ones to avoid and those made popular by performance. It is impossible in one answer to cover them all There was a tacked thread that covered it pretty well, but absent finding that, I would read around this website for a few hours and look at the various photos to see the different options, Specifically the ARMS rails are very different from Troy, Samson, Larue, Daniel Defense, etc. Our military uses the KAC (Knights armament) rail by more than 10-1 over other choices. This is a good start |
