| The more I read on this forum the more I think maybe my first AR could be a build. I know nothing of even taking one apart to clean and my only other piece is a 9mm. How difficult is it?hinking.gif |
Nope.... note the comment below the item description "All kits are complete - Less stripped lower receiver". You will have to get that through your FFL. BTW - the hardest thing about doing an AR build is.... deciding what you want beforehand ;) |
| I did a CAR assembled upper kit build a few years ago. I used a Rock River lower receiver. I printed the instruction/assembly page from this site. It took me about 45 minutes to assemble the rifle. The most time spent was chasing a pin and spring around my shop, use caution when installing these, they like to fly. The whole assembly was a piece of cake. I have done a few FN FAL's, much more work. In response to your other question about the lower receiver. The lower is NOT included in the kit. You will need to purchase that from an FFL dealer. If you don't have a dealer who stocks these, order one from one of the sources on here. You will need to arrange the transfer through one of your local dealers, no more than $25.00. They will send the seller of the receiver a copy of their FFL, just like buying a complete firearm. Good luck, you will be happy you built it when it's all done. |
| I put AR's together for friends all the time. You can get a name like Stag or DPMS, for about $110-$130 (stripped). I know Stag lower is mil-spec, Haven't looked too closely at DPMS, but they should be. My experience with Century and a few others is that some lack a little bit of final machining and won't close with all uppers. It's nothing a little filing can't cure though. Good luck |

Yea, I know the GUYS here will always go the easy route first. Maybe they are right if you are not mechanically inclined or not interested in the joy of planning and picking out the exact parts you want. As for me, my first build started with getting the tools together for a complete build. Then I spent time looking at the picture threads and reading the how-to stickies. I picked out all the parts (3 different vendors) and ordered it all. My CC was melting when I was finished. Then I waited by the door for days and days. Finally the BBT arrived, then again and again. When I had all the boxes of goodies, I laid them out on the dining room table with the stickies printed out and identified all parts present. I started with the lower, to build confidence. Got it together and it passed the safety/fuction checks! Then the upper, carefully torquing the barrel nut and indexing it for the gastube. Then the float tube and gasblock. Gosh, it looks like a rifle! Pushed in those two pins and vola! My 24"barreled varminter was done! So easy a caveman could do it! Girl power! We women rule! I did later buy a kit for another lower, a Del-ton. You should look at their stuff if considering a kit, I've read less negative stuff about them here than Model 1 and lots of good. Love mine. Well, at this point I've built 6 (only one was a kit) and it's not hard at all. They even work! |
That's what is referred to as the LPK. Lower Parts Kit Please read this thread. The first thing pictured is a stripped lower receiver. The second picture will show you all the pieces to a LPK. Again, the "kit" they are selling includes everything you need except the stripped lower receiver. |
