So this is my understanding so far, caould you please shed some light on the gaps I have? A1 - Fixed w/ windage A2 - Fixed w/ windage and elevation A3 - Picatinny But what are these options: VLTOR MUR w/ Shell Deflector VLTOR MUR w/ Shell Deflector Bolt Assist I lean to the fixed options - but I am tempted to a picatinny rail. Any help is appreciated! |

The A1 upper is pretty much what I had in the service during the 80's. The rear sight can be adjusted for windage by using a bullet and crude distance (0-250m and 300-460m) The A2 has a much more refined rear sight. It is adjustable for windage by using your fingers and while it still has a flip rear sight it is used for different reasons. The large hole is used for 100-200m and the small hole is used for 300-800m with the rotating distance wheel. The A3 removable carry handle is adjustable for 300-600m using the small hole. Not a big deal since I can't imagine someone taking a 700 to 800m shot at someone who is trying hard not to get shot in the first place. If it were my money I'd go with the A3. The flat top is much more versitle in mounting optics than either the A1 or A2. You can always get a carry handle later, but you can't convert a A1 of A2 into a flat top. Plus there are some really good choices on rear BUIS out there. |

Thanks! I found the VLTOR stuff. It looks like CNC majic rather than std manufacturing methods. The only thing that attracts me to the A1/A2 is the perception of a little more durability and it should weigh a bit less (albiet that matters less on the reciever than on the barrel - mechanical advantage/leverage) |
