I want to replace the A2 Birdcage FH on my 6.8SPC with a Vortex. I have a spare Vortex for a Rem700 bolt rifle (.308cal). The thread pattern is the same as my 6.8SPC which is 5/8x24. I'm thinking I can just simply remove the birdcage, thread on the Vortex with a little red locktight and I should be good to go. The Vortex flashhiders do not require indexing so I think this should be a simple "do it yourself" job.

Any input or suggestions from experienced personal would be appreciated.

Thanks !

No need for the locktite. The Vortex will self tighten.

Like Al said no locktite. They are self tightening..
Also dont put in on very tight, I just put mine on as tight as I could with my hand and it has been fine. I f you want to use a wrench just tighten it by hand them do 1/8 of a turn with the wrench..
Good luck

The above is correct for how to install the Vortex but standard thread for the AR15 is 1/2x28.  So I think you are out of luck.

6.8SPC barrels are threaded 5/8x24....same as Rem700 .30cal stuff. They are different from standard AR15 barrel threads so that someone does not accidentilly place a .223 device on a 6.8 barrel and .............KABOOM !!!!!!
