well i got to pick up my gemtech trinity today, and i wasn't to impressed by the sound reduction. i used 147gr sub sonic rem ammo in my colt 10" 9mm ar15. i even used this oil my class III dealer recommended and i didnt think it was that quite. do you guys have any recommendations? maybe ammo type? how much quieter would it be if i took off the 10" barrel and put a 5" tros barrel on it? thanks tom

You may want to chronograph the bullet and see if the bullet is going super-sonic because of the 10" barrell. Also if the bolt opens too early because of the added cycling pressure it sounds like an unsuppresed rifle especially when the bullet is super-sonic!

It is a suppressor, not a silencer. If you can shoot it without ear protection you are doin pretty good.

Thanks for the help with his choice of words, Fact is a subsonic 9mm should be VERY quiet so refer to my earlier post and have fun with your silencer.

how quiet were you expecting it to be? my 11.5 ar with a halo sounds like a .22 cci round, using 55gr ball if that. i hear more of the bolt then i do the round going off

on my XCR and RRA mid- length my G5 sounded about like a 1000 fps 22lr. My friend has a 7.5 inch RRA converted to .300 whisper with an AWC thunder trap. With the standard carbine buffer/spring it sounded just like my AK47 so we swapped the spring/buffer out and now the can actually gets to do it's job.

I never said anything about his choice of words. You misunderstood my reply, I was simply pointing out the fact that it is a sound suppressor made to suppress not silence the gunshot.

Sorry, I misunderstood your intention then, it seemed crass.

I have a 10.5 inch barrel on my Colt 9mm ar-15.  I made a thread adapter and use my crappy mac11 suppressor on it.  I would assume it is much lower in quality than a gemtec.  My set-up is very quiet in my opinion.  Now, if you're comparing it to suppressors that you hear in the movies, you might be let down....but the loudest sound you get with mine is the slapping of the bolt (which is actually pretty loud) and the bullets slamming into the target.  I would compare my muzzle crack to that of a .22 cb bullet.  They're the ones loaded with no gunpowder. (very quiet)
