my selector travels past the 90 degree vertical point to about 110 degrees.
could this be caused by the hole in the receiver being in the wrong position?
i tried three different selectors.  all three do it.

probably either a bad(worn) detent pin or the notch the pin rides in in the selector.

You might find some help here.

There are some tips posted on both loose and tight safety/selector switches.

If three different safeties have the same problem, I would look at a new safety detent and a new spring. If the spring is weak you could try stretching it out a bit.

Again, take a look at the above thread, it may give you some ideas.

tried three different selectors,
three different springs,
and three different detents.
and all combinations of the nine pieces.
DPMS,M&A PARTS, and RRA.
there is no significant difference.
they all do it.
i think it is the receiver,
but i dont know how to measure the small amount i believe it is out of spec.
and i am wondering if i can fudge with the selector to correct it or not?
or is even a safety issue at all?

any thoughts?

When you move it to safe, does it stay in that position?
When you move it to fire, does it stay in that position?
When it is on safe and you pull the trigger, does the selector prevent it from firing?
When it is on fire and you pull the trigegr, does the hammer fall?

So long as you answer yes to each of those questions, it is safe.  If it fails -any- of those then you've got a problem.

passes all these tests but still wiggles when in the fire position.
from 90 deg to about 110 deg.
i'm stumped.
the hole apears to be in the correct location.
any other thoughts?

If its wiggling it almost sounds like the hole in the receiver is over sized allowing the detent to rock.

since you tried 3 different selectors and 3 different springs and detents then I would also say that it's probably something wrong with the hole, like Shark15 said it might be a little oversized.

I have no idea what you can do to fix it if it's even possible to fix but as long as it works as it's supposed to than I wouldn't worry about it too much.  I also can understand the frustsration with having something be messed up even though it still works, it just bothers the shit out of ya sometimes.

This could also be caused by incorrect detent that would allow movement of safety selector.

My guess is an oversized / defective hole too.

This is the only thing that would explain the overtravel seeing that you have tried different selectors, detents and springs.

the hole is just a touch loose, but not sloppy.
