Im planning to put an EOTech 512 on my Bushmaster M4, so I want to go with the folding front sight. If it matters, I am sending it to ar15barrels to have work done on it which includes having a LaRue free floating handguard put on. Also, I want to retain the ability to mount a bayonet.

Would I be better off using something like this + a Troy folding sight?

Or something like this?

i'd take the 1st option--you can replace either one readily and the troy is a great sight

h/w, i went w/ the 2nd option for budgetary reasons...other than the initial sight line up, its been reliable

h/w, if you have the money for the troy and the gas block, why not just get the PRI all in one--better quality, fit and finish, and imo, locking on to the bbl--?

I like my PRI Sight, but with use it started to wobble. I really don't think it would change POI since it wobbles to forward and backwards. Still annoys me though.

I'd just just keep the front sight the way it is. That's me though.

Whatever you do, make sure to stop into the Oregon Hometown Forum.

Welcome to the board from Salem.

That gas block and Troy front sight combo will not give you the proper height to line up with the rear sight.  The Troy sight is made to mount on a rail that is the same height as the upper receiver.

Get a PRI front flip sight/gas block as metioned above and be done with it.

It is pricey but well worth it.

GG&G

Axis-lock style solid lockup.  Three beefy bolts in the clamp system.  Bayonet lug.  All the good stuff.

The new GGG Bolt On Flip-Up-Front-Sight is made from 4140 chrome moly steel.  Features solid lock up with ambidextrous operation.  Sculpted finger grooves for fast deployment.  1.25" sling swivel can be placed on either the left or right side.  Three bolt clamp for rock solid mounting with easy installation and removal.  Bayonet lug accepts all standard M16 bayonets.

If you must have a folding front sight (personally I prefer a fixed for use with an EOTech), Then get one like the PRI, GG&G, or YHM tht is part of the gas block.

Why have one exta point of potential failure? (the locking screw of the removable sight).

Awesome, you all are very helpful. I have a few more questions for 'yall when I get home but real quick - Forest: Why do you prefer the fixed sight with the EOTech? I would think it would get in the way and be annoying? Is there a reason why it might be beneficial?

EoTech co-witness with Front Irons is the only way to guarantee good shot placement, I use mine that way.  Sometimes with my Troy battle fold up and and some times with it down but my fixed sight is always there in the EoTech sight.

Frr I am thinking about 86ing my Front sight as well and going with the rifle length handguard and the matching Troy front Battle sight to my rear one.  That way I can still Co-Witness.

It really doesn't get in the way.  First off you're using both eyes so that really will reduce the impact (vs using just one eye), I also have my EOTech raised by 1/4" so the irons are in the lower 1/3 anyway.  Most of my field of view is clear.

And if I should need my irons, then they are already available, nothing to do or think about.  That's not a concern for a range/fun gun, but if used for Duty or self defens it might be a consideration.

Also I'd point out you're not going to get more durable or stabil than the pinned fixed front sight base.

I like the regular front site with my eotech also. I don't care for it on my scoped rifles but it works great with the eotech.

Hrm, if you leave the fixed front sight and put the EOTech on a riser for the bottom 1/3 cowitness, does it affect the accuracy of the EOTech? Perhaps Im wrong here but I assumed it would be optimal to keep it low as possible?

Thank you all very much for the input, it has been very helpful.

ch139 - Ill be sure to check out the Oregon form

Acuraccy isn't effected by height-over-bore, but precision is.  But only raising the sight 0.25" you'll never see a difference in either.

cool, thanks. Im suprised, I would have thought it would have a bigger effect. Then again, I have never used an EOTech yet. Suppose Ill leave the front alone, look around for a Troy rear folder, and try the EOTech directly on the flat top.
