Hey guys,

I can't get the safety out of my lower. I cocked the hammer, turned the safety 45 degrees and tried to tap it out. Nothing.

Any help please?

Thanks

Did you take the grip off first? It holds a spring and detent against the saftey.

Not sure where you heard that, but I've seen it written once or twice and it's dead wrong.

As the two posters above have said and as it states in the armorers manual that you can download from the information section above, remove the pistol grip so that the spring tension is taken off the detent and try to remove it.  You may be able to wiggle it free.  If it catches on the tail of the trigger then remove the hammer and that should give you some extra clearance.  Worst case you may need to remove the trigger too but usually just removing the hammer is more than enough.

+1 to all the above...

anyways, it sounds like you got the instructions on removing part of a 1911 ambi safety...

An AR15 selectors detent groove is different then the one on an M16 selector. The difference makes it about impossible for me to remove one from a AR15 unless I remove the grip , spring , and detent.
It is posible to rotate an M16  style selector and remove it. M16 style selectors used to be used and come in some kits years ago with a portion demilled so they would not move the disconnector. I have been able to remove them just by pushing hard with my finger and giving them a wiggle. I would never tap one to remove it. The metal is thinner than I chance doing it that way.
