I just want to say that while this is my first post I have been around here for a while now, and I have found this board very helpful. Thanks.

Now I purchased a New Les Baer Super Varminter and after the first couple of boxes I found the front gas block leaking pretty bad. There's significant residue left under the barrel infront of the gas block, I have checked all 3 of the set screws and they are all tight. Now my question is do I sent it back to Les Baer to have it fixed or do I let the Shop that sold it to me do the repair as they have offered to do for free.

Thanks for your time.

Josh

Is it cycling fine?

I was under the impression that the carbon will build up and self-seal the port.
However, if the company stands by their product, they should address the issue if it
bothers you.

Welcome to the site!

Yeah I don't know about the self sealing part, but I clean it up after every session. And I contacted both Les Baer and my Local Gun Shop and both are offering to fix the problem.

If it is cycling fine I wouldn't worry about it personally.

Yeah, it's cycling fine.

What upsets me is I think that when you purchse a rifle it should be free from defect. Whether it is a $699 bushmaster or a $2K Les Baer.

If it is leaking significantly, I'd worry about gas erosion. The problem just might not go away, but get worse with time. Have 'em fix it.

Contact Les Baer and find out of letting the local shop repair it will void the warranty. If not, then let the locals do it. This will do several things to your benefit:
*You will know if they are qualified gunsmiths. This may come in handy in the future.
*You will find out if they produce quality work. Again, for the future.
*You will save yourslef the expense of shipping the rifle.
* You will spare yourself from the anxiety associated with having a firearm in transit where you have zero control over it and almost zero recourse if something goes wrong.

Given what Les Baer rifles run, you need to contact Les Baer and ask them to correct or explain why the perceived problem should not be corrected. At those prices, you should expect nothing less than absolute customer satisfaction.

I'd send it to Les Baer if they have offered to fix it.

Well I have no experience with Les Baer products, but I will tell you that gas leakage from the standard FSB is normal. And in most cases the carbon, will as others have stated, eventually seal things up.

Keep us up dated, I’d like to know what they say!

Please send it after the Shot Show, if you send it around the middle of January that would be fine.

Good to go.

I second what the others have said. For the cost of that rifle I would expect nothing but perfection.

On a rifle I assembled, if it cycles reliably with suck-ass ammo, then I wouldn't worry about it.
