I am 16 years old and I just bought an AR about 2 months ago and I was just wondering if anyone has any good ideas on how i could make it cooler looking without completly emptying my wallet. IF it help I have a DPMS AP4 Carbine A3 with a Nikon Buckmaster 6-9X scope and a Rockmount bipod (9-13in.).

Most of the "cool looking" accessories/replacement parts for an Ar-15 serve some function. Not saying you shouldn't buy them nor have a use for them but what to suggest kinda depends on what you want to do with it.

You are lucky to have parents as nice as yours. I couldn't imagine many parents willing to buy an Ar15 for their 16 year old even with their own money.

function over form, dude

determine what you're using the rifle for, and go from there.

Ammo, magazines, training.

It looks cooler when you know how to use it.

After that, a light, and when you have a handle on the iron sights check out a EOTech or Aimpoint.

Hmmm.

Plenty of Ammo
Plenty of Mags
A Good sling

and Practice.

Learn to use irons and scrap the scope & bipod for now.

When I was 12 I had a Paper route. I saved up for my first Handgun that year. They did the background check for me, I paid for it.

I kept it loaded next to my bed in case of any shit.

It depends on the individual.

I'm 17 and just got a bushmaster ar-15 myself too, except I dumped alot of money into it the first week.  (IOR scope, harris bi-pod, m6 light/laser, mounts, clips, and more to come)

I got my Bushmaster and M1A when I was 15. No doubt about them being great weapons. The only optic I have ever used on the XM-15 is the ACOG. What kind of magnification are you getting with the IOR? You said Clips... Whoops.

A stupid looking rifle w/ ammo at the range is better than a "cool looking" rifle at home w/ no ammo.

Buy ammo.
You won't regret it.

+1 I would imagine a scope and bipod on a rifle like that are pretty useless.  I would concentrate on mags, ammo and range time.

just shoot it , clean and inspect it every time it is used. and in time you will realise what it is you "need". otherwise you will waste your money on stupid things that will sit unused.just don't be in a hurry to buy things you get what you need not bling. then after you get a good amount of experience you go with BRD and it goes on from there.

Mags, and a light.  I have become a major fan of having a light on any gun.  Tritium night sights would be nice too.

my first AR was a Colt SP-1 a long time ago. Please goto the range and use the irons over the scope first, and buy mags and ammo. Happy shooting.

well with just having christmas, all i asked for was ammo, i got about 450 rounds of ammo of christmas. Also i hate the Iron sights, i have got the scope sighted in so that i can put 3 rounds in the size of a half dollar at 100 yards. The Bipod has not yet been mounted on my gun yet, they adaptor does not fit right with my gracier guards, so i am getting a new pair of hand guards(free). I agree a light is something i want, but as of right now i was just asking for ideas in the future. But thanks a lot for your inputs, they really help!!!

Skip even the ammo and mags and buy professional training first. You'll be suprised at how much you learn from even a one-day course.

Professional Training? Are you talking about videos? How do i go about getting training?

Take a course from a place like the Sig Academy, Front Sight, Thunder Ranch, etc. There's an instructor here I take private lessons from sometimes, too - you can probably find one where you live by asking in your home-town forum or something.

I Shoot for a hobby and hunt coyotes/jackrabbits, is that type of training really necessary?

Thanks for your time!!!

Does anybody know of any good sites with AR accessories?

PK Firearms Is where my dad and I get alot of our stuff.

Hey, Im 17 and just got my AR for Christmas. I know what you mean about trying to spend your money wisely on accessories.

Depending on how you like to shoot, a vertical fore grip such as a Tango Down would be a good investment. To mount it, you can get a 6" section of rail with nuts and bolts to mount it to your hand guards for $20.

Well I was going to tell you the same thing as Rodent, but I don't think you're going to listen. Most cheap AR accessories suck and the good stuff isn't cheap.
