I have been reading alot on this site the last few days.  I posted once about a 300 yard varminter.  I got a lot of good opinions.  Thank you.  I think I have found what I want.  Rifle will be used for ground hog hunting only, out to 300 yards, from a fixed position.  I am leaning towards the Rock River Arms Varmint EOP?  I think I am going to go with the 24 inch barrel.  I will only be shooting 45 and 52 grain bullets.  I will not be shooting any thing larger than that.  I am trying to decide about twist.  1 in 9 is standard.  I am considering the 1 in 12.  What do you guys think.  I found one for $915.  Is this a good price?  It has the NM 2-stage trigger.

I will be hand loading for this rifle.  What do you guys think about the RR chamber?  Are there any specific dies for this chamber?  My understanding is that this chamber is a standard size, but with a shorter throat(but not a tight chamber or throat), is that correct?  I have been reloading for 30 years, but any help on dies would be appreciated.  Thanks, Tom.

RRA makes great AR's.  I wouldn't get the Varmint EOP, I'd get the A4 (Flat Top).  Trust me.  And just get the 1x8 twist.  The 1x8 Twist will shoot everything and since you will be reloading, you can customize it to your barrel.

The Wilson  chamber is a Wylde Chamber.

The .223 Wylde chamber was designed as a match chambering for semi-auto rifles.  It will accomodate both .223 Rem and 5.56mm NATO Ammunition.  It is relieved in the case body to aid in extractionand features a shorter throat for improved accuracy.

Most of my recent barrels have been Wilson 1x8 witht the Wylde Chamber and all have been super accurate.  Good Luck

Between the two choices you listed, 1/9 & 1/12, I'd go with the 1/9. Even though you said you wouldn't be shooting anything heavier than 52 grains you may change your mind one day or find a deal on 62 grain ammo. I think a barrel with 1/9 twist would be great for what you want to shoot, and it will allow you some flexibility if you decide to go with heavier bullets.

Go with the 1/9. My RR 1/8 doesn't like the lighter bullets as well as my Bushmaster Varminter with the 1/9.

If you are sure you are only going to fire up to 52gr bullets a 1/12 will serve you better. However you will always have a limit of approx 55-60gr as the max bullet weight. The advantage of a 1/12 twist is that it allows you to shoot light bullets faster. High velocities with a fast twist can rip light bullets apart. Right now I am looking at a box of one of my favorite varmint bullets, the speer 50gr TNT. On the box it says "for velocities not exceeding 3400fps, for twists no quicker than 1/10"

I recommend the 1/9, and the standard flat top, not the EOP.  The EOP will limit your mounting options in the future, and significantly lower resale value if you ever want to part with it.

I thought the EOP would get the scope up higher?  A couple of you guys said stay away from it, why, besides resale value?  Resale is not important to me,  I am buying this to be a hunter, and I will definitely be keeping it.  Also I will not be loading any pills larger than 52 grain, the larger bullets just do not interest me.  Tom.

Because with the Flat Top upper you have more options and a better resale value.  With the Flat top upper, you will need high rings and it should put you at the right height.  Also, you asked if you should get a RRA Varmint EOP in a 1x9 or 1x12 twist.  As far as I know, the Wilson Air-Gauged Stailess Steel Bull Barrels only come in 1x8 or 1x12 twists.  The RRA Coyote Rifle comes in a 1x9 twist but it isn't a Bull Barrel, it is just a Wilson HBAR.

In my opinion, the 1x8 twist is still a better choice over the 1x12 because you can shoot a wider range of bullets.  And like I wrote before since you will be reloading, you can play around with the powders and make just about any ammo shoot excellent in your barrel.

Do a 1 in 12" and the Standard Flattop upper receiver.
Use a riser block to mount the scope, and you will be
mounted lower than the EOP upper.

I have the RRA 24" with the 1-12" twist. I too thought long and hard before chosing the 1-12" barrel because I also shoot the lighter bullets and strictly shoot off the bench no futher than 200 yards. The previous posters have very valid points on the 1-8 twist and you should consider it if you are going to do much long range hunting, the heavier bullets will perform better especially under windy conditions.
I also agree with previous posters, do not get the EOP, get the flat top which will give better mounting options for you optics. By selecting the right rings and/or rails, you can get the scope positioned at the correct location. I used an ARMS extended rail to move the scope foward and QR rings.

Here's mine with the Wilson 1x8 Bull Barrel.  Minus the Donkey Dick and no BUIS.
