I like carbines with fixed stocks. I solved the A2X or A2 w/spacer P&W dilemma with a SE Vortex. PSA M16A2 lower with a Hiperfire EDT trigger.

Good, solid SHTF rifle with a FSB flashlight mount, RDS and a GI top sling kit.

Haven't had an issue with it yet...
I'm sure it could but you'd probably have to do several mag dumps. Besides, this poor ol' girl lives behind the seat of my truck now and doesn't get much trigger time anymore.

IMHO, I've seen builds done all three ways, and I think the spacer looks the best. The very first pic in this entire thread convinced me of that. It looks closest to 14.5 I think.

My contribution. Absolutely love the slick, simple, light and fast handling little carbines.

My OCD is still screaming at me about having a C7 upper instead of an A1.  It's all I could find when I was putting the upper together.  That brass deflector is just mocking me. Lol!

The upper is one that JT replaced the front sight base/gas block. Like it just rolled out of the factory...

Same for an 11.5 to have trimmed down to 10" for an XM177E1 upper to go with my E2.  Hopefully we won't be waiting too long!

I also like somewhat simple, light and fast carbines. That is one of the reasons I like this thread and try to keep up with it.

I don't know of any people who have more experience with urban combat then the IDF. So I tend to copy their style of rifles for my home defense AR's.

Inspired by this thread... Not finished.  I have a spare holosun dot, and mepro m21, but not sure I want to employ them.

100% Colt, except the gas tube.
AR15 A2 lower
Smooth upper (601, I think)
A1 grip, D-ring, birdcage
DOE 9mm stock

Not an IDF clone, but definitely in the KISS vein.  I wanted something simple and not too expensive (in the case I have to use it and LE won't return it, which is a strong possibility here in CA).  I've also always liked the retro stuff, so I wanted to give it some retro flair.  Holding off on the CA parts and just keeping the BCG out for now in case we get something good from Benitez.  This build was completed just three weeks ago or so (with the help of HDLS).  Without accessories it weighs 6 lbs. 1.5 oz.  I haven't weighed it yet with accessories.  I think I'm into it for around $800 with accessories.

Below is a photo of three of my favorite go-to carbines. I tend to prefer simple, light weight carbines.

The top one is a Colt CR6920 with a Primary Arms 3x prism scope and Zahal sling. The middle carbine is a Colt CR6920, GI type sling, and the bottom AR is Del-ton M2 Sport with a Zahal sling (old style), and skinny hand guards.

I've watched and Google everything  I can on the Mepro m21 sight.
My question is which reticle? I'm looking for 50 yard zero with xm193 to be effective out to 250/300 yards.
I like the bullseye. Could the top of outer circle be used for longer shots like the top of the triangle reticle.
How is the reticle in using with CQB lights or shooting towards lights?
With the washout remover what is the battery life?
I'm between the m21 or an eotech but I don't care for the battery life.

I like the triangle because you can zero it for long range using the tip of the triangle, and at CQB distances  use the whole triangle like a red dot.

I have never had to  use the washout remover.

In a room with light colored walls, an extremely bright iight will wash out the reticle.  I recommend using a BUS for indoors after dark.

I have a couple of M21's with the circle dot. If I were going to buy another it would be their 4.5 dot or the triangle.

I would zero it at exactly 200 yards. I would use the tip of the triangle to establish my 200 yard zero, the 4.5 moa dot would be centered as usual. Bullet drop at 300 yards will be approximately 7.5 inches or 2.5 moa.

The circle on the circle dot is too thick IMO and too close to the center dot. A larger 65 moa circle like EOTech's circle would work better. The brightness and size covers the target making it almost impossible to see much on a sunny day. I covered my light window with tape and it's still borderline too bright. Inside brightness is excellent, not too bright, not too weak, goldilocks bright.

These types of rifles are my favorite.   I prefer the KISS approach to things.
I may have posted these earlier in this thread but figured might as well not freeload.
My two favorites and I’m collecting parts to build an A1.

Well I ordered the Mepro M21B bullseye reticle and it seems awesome.
This thing is built like a tank compared to my delaminating Glass , broken mount screw eotech 512, and my aimpoint pro with factory mount.

Well if you ever happen upon an A1 and decide to take off the C7, this left eye dominant shooter would love to buy it from you.

So I've had this idea for a build. Themed using the XM1771 as the inspiration. Regular conventional lower, USGI handguards, M4 waffle stock, C7 upper, and a 14.5" pinned and welded pencil barrel with the correct FSB. Trijicon makes an RMR mount for fixed handles, and either a bayonet or FSB mounted scout light.

Does anyone have something similar for inspirations? The only thing keeping me from starting is the lack of C7's until they become available again.

@rpoL98

I bough the handguard used and that gap has always been there.  It will tighten up a little if i squeeze them together.  It has yet to cause any pinching or issues, so I just go with it.  I should also mention that the handguard had been FDE and was rit dyed blk.  The gap may be larger due to that, but I honestly can't remember as there was a gap from the get go.

With bayonet mounted after my buddy pinned it for me

Thank you. I see that its only being sold on Botach

For that small amount and made in the US, I took a shot. That ring mount looks to be a GG&G and a Surefire G2 I presume? This is exactly what I have been looking for to be honest. The Mossy Oak FSB rail attachment that I purchased from Arisaka is not working with my PSA M4 upper at all.

Yep GGG ring mount. It is either a G2 or Streamlight Polytac. I like the Streamlights now. They are brighter (300 Ls) and "clicky".

Me personally have never had an issue with Botach, all positive. Shit a friend ordered an Aimpoint Pro and they ran out and sent him a M4.

I just ordered the G2X LE along with the GG&G ring. When it all shows up I will post pics but not in here, as this is an M4 with an Aimpoint Pro, so not a true KISS.
