IDF is the selfie Army...

On topic though, this thread makes me feel like I need to do a Canadian edition.   Still a few old school C8 uppers kicking around in surplus...

I finally managed to grab a C8 upper at a good price. Plan on putting a pic in here and maybe post a thread in retro.

Mrs. Miami_JBT's AR at the moment. It will get an optic upgrade in the future.

So I decided to build an IDF carbine, to add to my collection. Using a C7 upper, 6520 barrel with pinned flash hider and peel washers, skinny six hole handguards, type 1 CAR stock with two position stock, Brownells A1 lower and just ordered some accessories for it from Zahl, in Israel.y question is what kind of stampings do they use? I've seen the Star of David stamp but where would I get one and what is the placement of the stampings?

It can be done with a laser. Just download a Star of David and size it. Left upper corner of the magwell near the pivot works.

Is colt the only company that supplies M16/M4 to Isreal?

My truck gun.   PSA and S&W parts, built more for the experience building a lower than anything else.

SOOOOO much lighter than my primary AR or my duty rifle.

There is anecdotal evidence that Bushmaster may have as well. Bushmaster at a minimum has had contracts with Israel for non AR15 weapons systems.

Is the Star of David, the only marking, the Israelis put on the carbines? If so, ok. If not, can someone show pics of what they are and where the placement would be, please.

Yes the only marking and no standard pacement, but somewhere on the left side of the magwell seems common? As with all things Israeli weapons there is no real standard... any mix of parts and optics and markings is really correct.

Look there's a small M16 attached to that Grenade Launcher!

It's like they had to hang some longer muzzle device to have enough length to hold the launcher.

Grenade man first....... rifleman second.

They're 20" rifle barrels cut down so the muzzle threads start at the flare just behind the rifle-length gas block shoulder.  It makes them just below 13".

Look up menusar barrels.

The mass chopped barrel conversions were due to the US government giving the Israelis a ton of full-size M16A1s during Operation Nickel Grass and the Israelis subsequently wanting to convert them en mass to carbines.  This is also why the IDF has a ton of retro M16s, in general, and also why the Galil wasn't widely issued to the IDF, despite being developed around this time.

Yup.  18" Gunner profile, wearing a Fulton Armory .625 gas block that's designed to be easier to install without doing taper pins. On top of a Sabre Defense/Cav Arms lower to keep it lightweight and simple.

Handguards and stocks get hot in the Mediterranean sun.

The stock bands also cover the hole in the top of the stock so it doesn't catch whiskers.

They're comfy.

Those barrel obstruction/safety flags sure look like a pain to try and get out in a hurry. Basically like there is no quick way to get the rifle into service.

See a lot of pics with 550 / paracord wrapped around the FSB then to the rear of the handguards, like below.  What for?

So I pinned a 14.5 Colt barrel with a spacer to use with a Colt lower but, the Fab defense stock is commercial (did not know that) and the lowers are staked so

True, have not tried to remove one so not sure how much carnage takes place. I have lowers falling off the top shelf so I did not want to molest a Colt, especially after I welded the hider on and forgot the spacer the first time.

Spoiler: it is. I think its easier to see if your save the picture and then mess around with the light adjustments in photoshop or similar programs.
