I'm looking for a 16" light weight barrel.  It must be threaded for a fh but I do not want a bayonet lug.  Does anyone know where I can find a barrel like this?  I've tried the EE but no luck.

Thanks,
Mark

Bushmaster makes a really nice lightweight barrel in both pre and post ban configs.  You may contact them and see if they would make a hybrid for you.  If not, order the pre ban and remove the bayonet lug before you install the barrel.

It's easier to thread a post ban barrel than put a new front sight base on one.
I would just get a Bushmaster postban barrel and thread it rather than to remove the lug from a preban configured barrel.

Of course, I have a machine shop and do this stuff every day.
If you have a bench grinder and touchup blue, you can probably remove the lug easier than threading the barrel.

The Bushmaster post ban ultralight barrel is too thin to thread according to their website.  I would vote for grinding off the lug.  Of course you could allways find any post ban barrel, and have Randall at AR-15 Barrels turn it to the profile you want.  Geof

I thread bushmaster superlight barrels almost every week.
They are 0.570" in diameter.
This leaves a 0.035" step above thread major diameter.
I offer an option to create a step-up bushing that threads on to the barrel and gives you a much more substantial step.

This is a Bushmaster Superlight that we are talking about.
This particular one has a bushing with wrench flats added and the whole barrel has been re-parkerized.

No, Bushmaster's website says that MUZZLE BRAKES for post-ban (non-threaded) barrels will not fit the superlight barrel.  Those are the brakes that press-fit and set screw onto the end of a non-threaded barrel.

Oh, those muzzle brakes...
I know about those muzzle brakes.
They are the ones that fly off after a couple hundred rounds, leaving those setscrew drag marks on the barrel.
I have threaded a bunch of barrels that had that happen to them.

a dremel with a carbide cutting disc would take the lug off in less than 5 minutes but I like the added step thats threaded on the barrel..more meat for the flash hider. To AR15 barrels do you sell that bushing for the super light barrel seperate?

No.
They are fit to individual barrels.
The barrel gets threaded 7/8" long instead of the normal 5/8" long.
The step-up bushing is 1/4" long and threads into place.
I blend the bushing to the barrel while it's installed.
It's not possible to add this bushing to an existing barrel.
The threading job needs to have been done from scratch on a postban barrel or when shortening the barrel to 14.5" or 14.7".

May I ask why you wish not to have the bayo lug attached?  I know your governor is not a friend to gun owners, but the land of Lincoln doesn't have it's on AWB yet does it?

Randall,

Thanks for the picture and the information.

Onslaught,

Thanks for the correction.  I missread the note on Bushmaster's sight.

I am building an xm177e2 clone and they do not have bayonet lugs.

That was my guess too...

I offer completely finished XM177 clone barrels for $325.
This is a Bushmaster flash hider with the small step removed, then I add wrench flats and re-parkerize it.
It's permanent attached with a grenade ring for just over 16" length.
