I did the same, pulled the can and bi pod off and ran drills at 25 yards. I was a little slow at first but after a hundred rounds or so my target acquisition was pretty quick on 2.5x

Hey all! First post here!

This thread specifically helped me figure out what I wanted in an AR. I decided that for a first centerfire rifle, it should be able to do a bit of everything, which fits the recce concept very nicely. So, figured I'd post some photos of my recce rig as you guys call it as this thread is where it was basically born!

I've had this rifle for 2 years now, and I'm finally saying that there will be no more changes to it as is. If I want a change, I'll need to do a separate build because I love the rifle as is. I've shot this rifle from 0-1,035 yards, and it's my competition gun, target gun, and HD gun if need be. Can't wait to build some more AR's pretty soon, but for right now, this is fitting the bill.

Part list:
Ddm4v5
16" DD barrel, mid length
12" ddm4 lite rail
A2 grip(it's the tits shut up)
B5 Bravo stock
Ms1 sling
Adm recom mount
Viper pst 1-4 mrad
Streamlight hlx rail mount
Haley strategic thorntail sbr scout mount
Mbus sights
Geissele Ssae trigger
Magpul xt rail covers

Please pardon the image links, I'm new, so, they don't show up!

My all time favorite rifle and handgun. I've said it before and I stand by it; in my opinion nothing beats the MRP platform. I keep going back to them despite my KAC, Noveske, RIS II's, etc. It's the most ridgid platform to mount ancillary gear.

ETA I just realized I posted this in the recce thread and not the mini recce, if need be I can certainly remove it

So what's in these days for recces these days as far as barrel length and gas system and optic?

Sold this one a couple years ago. Ready to do it again. It was a 16" carbine with a 1.5-4.

16" middy with a vortex 1-6 seems to be the new hotness. Geissele or MI rail, though quads are still secks.

Or on a budget, 16" middy with primary arms 1-6. But a BDC goes against the point of an accurized gun in my books.

Match grade barrel 16 inch mid-length

Optics you have two routes.

Option 1: 1-4/5/6/8x variable power and I believe acogs are acceptable as well.

Option 2: 3-9x and 2.5-10x usually with an off set red dot.

I chose to go with a Bushnell Engage 2.5-10x (not clone specific but only $300) with a off set vortex Venom with the thought of I can work longer ranges easier but have the ability to shoot close.

My opinion isn’t worth much but I think the 16” Mod 1 transcends the Mk12. It’s just the perfect size and proportions.

I'm really debating chopping my barrel to the 15" range for the flush AEM5 to FF RAS fit. Can't decide if I'd want to pin it or go ahead and throw it on a SBR lower.

Shower me with your chopped Mod 1 rigs to convince me!

Took the acog and Streamlight off and slapped the Vortex Viper PST and bipod on for the Sunday shoot.

Adco did not recommend pinning. I didn’t ask why but took their word on it. My upper was sent out today so I look forward to getting it back.

Chincy, out of curiosity, did you shoot it offhand and does that balance bother you with a stock that light?  I keep going back and forth as to what stock I like.  LOL.

I didn't shoot off hand but I will be giving it a try tomorrow as I'll have a little more open range access. The CAR stock is very light and so far I'm on the fence about it. Really its just for looks, since its a little more OG GWOT type look.
If its not the CAR stock its a gen1 sopmod or my fixed A1, but the sopmod is hard to beat. Just not as appealing as the CAR stock, to me at least.

I'll report back tomorrow on off hand.

Always thought when using the Recce Rail and 22M Rings was an appropriate combo set up, as to the 22H w/ Recce Rail was a tad tall for a good cheek rest or am I just mixing it up with a Holland lol

Yeah it’s between that and a badger unimount right now. Although nightforce is still a contender too. I’m gonna try shooting with the highs and see how I like it before I jump ship.
