If anyone has a FA or Dust Cover (preferably Colt) laying around let me know, I'd be interested in buying them.

And big shoutout to secretwheelman for passing this awesome gem along to me!

I bought a barrel for my mossberg a few years back that had been wrapped with that shit.

The ONLY thing that took it off was a blasting cabinet.

I'd spray before i used that shit.

Nice choice. I would shoot with it mounted a few times at least, to make sure it's something you want to keep. If you decide it's something you are going to hold onto, I would spray away!
Took me a minute to paint my MK 6, but I'm glad I did.

Why'd you sell it?

Interesting, I never really thought of wrapping it honestly.

Maybe I won't consider the wrap then haha.  If I end up painting it, I'm fairly certain it would be "permanent" at this time I have no thoughts of selling this anyways.

Thanks, that's the plan.  I'm fairly positive I will love it, but still need to get it out a few times first.

Your rifle looks great.  Mines in a similar state to your before pic, I've just painted some of it OD green so far.  Was waiting for the NF to hit the entire thing.

Not sure if this counts as a Recce, but it's similar at least.

LaRue Stealth 16" bbl, 10" rail, Primary Arms 1-4x24 in PA mount, Troy BUIS, cheap Pro Mag bipod, and  Cav comp. Everything but the Stealth upper and the BUIS was cheap, but works well for the range. The bipod is a little short, but it's okay with 15 round NJ mags like the one in the pic. It's fun and I like it.

That bipod is short???????  Looks kinda tall to me.  Nice build though.  I'm a sucker for fixed stocks.

Well, maybe the bipod is about the same as my 6-9 in the lowest setting.  I'm guessing maybe you can't raise it more?

Yep  it's a 6" and not adjustable. It's a little short for me when shooting from a bench, but perfect for my friend who's a few inches shorter than me.

(it also works quite nicely with Hornady 75's, cause I have a BHW-tubed gun, 8 twist, wylde chamber, that's lights out with 69SMK and 75BTHP)

One could easily run the gamut from 55-75 with an 8-twist tube.

Forgive my ignorance, but with a 1:8 twist, isn't equally good shooting with 55gr and 77gr impossible? I mean, it's mutually exclusive. If twist rates are optimized for one weight only, then you're not going to shoot the extreme opposite ends of the weight spectrum equally well, right?

For 1:8 I would bet you'll settle in on 65-69gr.

Guess I am done…

My Recce (SPRecce?)- I bought a pre built upper from BCM for this build and I am pretty pleased how it shoots. I went with their 15 Keymod and their SS410 stainless barrel. When I was test firing this I was able to hold my reloads into 1.5 inches/100 measured yards without too much work on sand bags. The Nightforce fc-2 reticle does not lend itself to precision work and I am sure the carbine is capable of much better groups.

My paint work is not as nice as a lot of the guys, but I freaken live in the desert and this works quite well for my needs. And a color change is just one can away…and with our drought my nice green lawn will soon be a thing of the past. Now all I need to do is get out and put some usage wear patterns on it.

Tech specs for interested people:

BCM upper with 15 inch keymod and SS410 16 barrel
Nightforce NXS 1-4x24mm - .250 MOA - FC-3G on a AD mount
Harris Bipod with a A.R.M.S #32 QR mount
Geissele SSA-E
B5 Sopmod stock
Levang Linear Comp (live in CA so no chance for a suppressor so I run these to save what is left of my hearing)
80% lower engraved with my firearms trust info.

For paint I pulled the barrel, bead blasted it before appling Norrels (it was WAY too shiny under those handguards) and used Rust-oleum camo. Did the same for my Mk12 Mod 1 and it has held up pretty well.

</a>" />
The start...
</a>" />
</a>" />
</a>" />
</a>" />
</a>" />

Just too much money tied up in one optic for my poor ass... Plus I wanted to hurry up and complete my M4A1 SOPMOD Block 1.5 PR "clone"

I'll probably replace it with a Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10x32 in a month or two... That'll suit my needs just fine.

While I don't disagree with you on 77's, please explain how 8 twist won't work for 55's.  And don't give me any of that "it spins them so fast the jackets come off in flight" horseshit i've seen others try and throw around on here.  I've shot as light as 40 vmax out of a SEVEN (yes, 7! zomg!) twist tube well within minute-of-prairie-dog, because i hit plenty of 'em out to 400 with it.

(it also works quite nicely with Hornady 75's, cause I have a BHW-tubed gun, 8 twist, wylde chamber, that's lights out with 69SMK and 75BTHP)

One could easily run the gamut from 55-75 with an 8-twist tube.

I shoot M193 out of my 1/8 16" barrel and shoot ~2MOA with ease at 100....

Yeah well you're a freak of nature who can make any gun shoot well.

My recce shoots WWB 55 grain very well.  2 MOA and sometimes better.  They used to have this wally world 40 round value pack that I swear shot like match ammo.  I got pics to prove it if someone wants me to.

I've also never met a barrel that didn't shoot black hills blue 52 brain BTHP's really well at 100 yards.  And all of my barrels have been 1/7 or 1/8.   Well, I had a 1/12 for a short period of time and that one too shot the 52's very well.  It's a magic load for accuracy at 100 yards and under.  IMHO.  I don't know what it does past that.

One range session:

that day the recce was configured like:

My first Recce-style rifle - it's a DD M4V11 upper on a Sabre Defense lower. PA 1-6x in an ADM Recon mount and a Harris bipod.
I'm looking forward to taking it out. I still need a sling and irons, but those will come soon.

So who all prefers a 2-Stage trigger over a Single Stage trigger... For precision shooting???

I've only had the pleasure to push rounds down AR rifles with 4 different FCG Categories...

1: 3 different rifles with "Mil-Spec" FCG's... No notable difference.

2: Geissele SD3G... Whoa, my wallet initially hated me for the trigger purchase, Then hated me some more for the following ammo purchases!!!

3: Mil-Spec factory FCG... Bobbed, polished, with JP "Yellow" springs... Meh!

4: LaRue MBT... Sharp edges on the trigger shoe, Firm and tactile trigger reset... but feels like 20 miles worth or travel, bot for the 1st stage... And the reset.

My favorite for blasting and precision is the Geissele SD3G

YMMV

Big fan of the SSA and its good enough to get sub-moa groups with proper trigger control.

I only have a Colt single stage and rock river 2 stages to compare anything to.  Never tried a Gisselle.  I think the RRA 2 stage makes shooting easier.  But it's just because they are light.  I honestly don't know if it makes a whole big difference though.  Other than the fact that most run of the mill single stage AR triggers are HEAVY.  My Colt's is.  But I've gotten some decent groups with it.

So, for me it's more about how heavy is the break and the lighter it is the easier it's going to be break a shot and not pull it.  But if your rest is really rock solid......

Also, one of the RRA two stages I have is almost too light and breaks before I really want it to.  That can be annoying.  I guess we figured out it's probably the "varmint" trigger but it breaks around 3 lbs.  I feel like I've got no control over it.  I just start to squeeze and BOOM.  I think 5 lbs is probably ideal for me.

I had a standard trigger, then went to a CMMG two stage (which had some doubling issues, but they replaced it and the new one didn't), and finally a Geissele SSA-E.

I've shot Timney and AR Gold triggers on friends rifles too, and prefer the Geissele. I wouldn't want to go any lighter for pull weight.

I was originally going to go with an SSA, but got a really good deal on the SSA-E.  It is definitely my favorite trigger for precision shooting, but that being said all my other rifle have ALG QMS triggers in them.

SSA-E in my precision gun and love it. I had a RRA 2 stage and it was good but the G is that much better. Agreed on not wanting a lighter pull weight.

Since I picked up an ssa I've kinda quit looking at other precision triggers. It's pretty great. I have two qms, and they are two totally different triggers. One has zero take up, almost no travel and almost no reset. A pound or two lighter and it would be a 3g trigger. The other has very little take up, modest travel and clean break. The pull weight is similar, but of totally different characters.

For some reason that's the first newfangled AR / Recce I've liked.  A 4x16 on there will really make it a nice, precision shooter.

Latest incarnation of the recce... Upgraded to 12" rails, threw on a few KAC covers and a Larue handstop, sprayed everything Magpul FDE.....

Loaded with can it weighs 11.2 pounds..... Not light but that's with the UBR and SS match barrel. No malfunctions to date, maybe 800 rounds or so.
