I have 3 lowers that are begging to get completed. Looking for the best deal for a LPK. Thanks Matt |

Stag, RRA, and Armalite get my vote for the most common, easy to get, under $60 LPK for the fit and finish DPMS is usually a little cheaper, but i would not opt for em again if i could help getting one fo the above first ETA: the only reason i had some qualms w/ the DPMS LPK i got: missing a pin and spring; my trigger guard pin and mag release pin were too large for my MEGA lower, finish is a dark grey, needed black |
Ok, I should say that they're pretty much the same if you get them from one of the bigger brands...given that, I've never seen a difference. Don't go buy some brand you've never heard of (or some that we _have_ heard of. |

I used Armalite in the Stag lower that I assembled a couple of weeks ago. The only thing I'm not too sure on is the bolt stop. It's got serrations down the entire surface instead of just on the round pad like all others I've seen. I'm not concerned about the quality of the part, it's just got a different feel that I've got to get used to. Oh yeah, the neat little green box is a bonus! |
Its their design - AR10 style. I've gotten used to them now and prefer them for manual lockbacks, etc.

I've used RRA, Stag, and DPMS. I perceived no difference between the first two brands, and everything went together beautifully. I have used 5 DPMS kits; two for my personal builds and three on a buddy's lowers. The DPMS roll pins for the bolt catch lever and the trigger guard were significantly oversized on EVERY SINGLE one that we had. So much so that we had to pound and hammer on them waay more than one should have to. My buddy couldn't get the roll pin all the way in on his trigger guard. He says it's functional so he's OK with it. I actually felt I might break the trigger guard tab on the lower because of the amount of heavy hammering required to push the pin all the way in for my trigger guard. The RRA and Stag pins were pushed in with a rollpin punch and no hammer, then tapped lightly to make flush. In fact, the DPMS roll pins mentioned did not fit in the roll pin punch holes that I used on the other two because they were too large. For the extra hassle of the DPMS, I'd prefer RRA or Stag for the extra $5 - $7 they cost. |

I've used RRA LPK's and a DPMS LPK. Although I think RRA makes superior products, the trigger pull on the RRA trigger is anything but smooth/nice/clean. But it is still acceptable for a battle carbine. The DPMS hasn't given me problems (no out of spec pins or anything, no malfunctions), but one good thing about the DPMS is that the trigger pull is VERY nice. It's so nice, it is bordering on 2-stage nice. Very clean trigger pull on the DPMS. I was very impressed with the feel of the DPMS trigger pull, it's a night and day difference over my RRA triggers. |
You know, I did notice that as well. RRA triggers are very heavy (to me) and gritty, and the DPMS triggers are exactly as described. Maybe I'll just invest in some extra roll pins. They're a lot cheaper than good triggers! |
| I have done two builds in the last year with Stag LPKs. Most of the parts look like the usual stuff from any quaility manufacturer, but I can say, BOTH have produced above average trigger pulls in a lower from Bushmaster and another from Denny. They are of the highest quality in my book. |

Mine was DPMS LPK in a RRA lower with an RRA NM trigger added. Went together fine. Roomate #2, I just did a RRA LPK with the trigger, and I had to fuck with the selector detent for twenty minutes. The detent dents in the selector itself lined up just right with the point on the detent to totally lock the selector. Cut a couple loops off the spring and filed the detent a bit and it worked out OK. I can get DPMS for 44 bucks wholesale rate from Brownell's, I'll stick to those. I LOVE those RRA triggers though. |

Just put another DPMS LPK in a RRA lower... The two roll pins I mentioned earlier were again oversized, as in, they do not fit in the correctly sized holes in the roll pin starter punches I got from Steve @ ADCO, and you can't even BEGIN to get them started in the upper without a hammer. This time though, I put the two problem roll pins inbetween vice grips and squeezed them enough that they just barely fit in the roll pin starter punches. As a result, I managed to get both of them about half-way in with moderate to significant pushing by hand before resorted to the padded vice grips for a squeeze fit the rest of the way. I had to do some twisting to get the starter punch off the roll pin though. I only needed to use the hammer and standard punch to seat them below flush. The LPK cost me four LEO marked mags, so I'm happy. |

OK...call me nutz but I spent a cool $100 on a Les Baer Custom lower parts kit...that's without the trigger /hammer assembly! But, all the key metal parts are Baer Coated and match my LBC matched reveivers. A waste of money? No. Somewhat excessive...sure. Necessary, far from it. Will my rifle shoot any better - nope. But it will look complete and if the parts are good enough for LBC guns that shoot sub 1/2 MOA out of the box...I will spend the extra few dollars and smile the whole damn time. Pics of the complete project to follow. |
Did you get a Baer-coated screw for your pistol grip? |
