I'm thinking of getting the Magpul CTR but have a question before I do. How easy is it to replace the original collapsible stock? (Mil-spec tube)? Do I need special tools for the job?

 Thanks for you help

Build It Yourself--or you could go in reverse of these!

How to w/ pics!

basically: remove buffer and spring, remove the castle nut on buffer tube (AR armory wrench, hammer+punch, or CAR stock wrench needed), screw off tube (watch out for the dentent and spring!), remove stock

whoops, well i gave yall the long, drawn out way

for a std m4/CAR stock, you should be able to extend the stock fully, then pull the lever straight and open, and the stock should slip off

Watch out for that rear takedown pin spring.

That was the coolest thing ever, learned something new .... thank you very much. Now would the Magpul CTR go on as easy as the original stock was to take off?

 Thanks

Rock River is not mil-spec, but Magpul has a version that fits it.

Anyone have any experience installing this version? Is it just a matter of a different wrench?

You don't need a wrench unless you are taking the receiver extension off.  The non-mil-spec receiver extension is bigger around then a mil-spec one.  So a stock designed for a mil-spec extension won't fit on a non-spec extension, the stock would be too small.  If you don't want to take the extension off, just pull down on the lever on the stock and slide it off.

The wrench used to take the receiver extension off is the same for all collapsable stocks.
