I was up at the cabin over the weekend, my M4gery sitting on the rifle rack and I was looking at it.  I thought to myself, that stock front sight doesn't look right on there.  I want to put on a different one but removal is an issue.  What would be easier and better looking, remove the current front sight or getting a sightless barrel.  Can I have some opinions?  It's a Colt upper if that makes a difference.  Oh, you will notice the handguard is tilted, it's straight now.

i think she looks just fine
maybe swap out stocks instead of a front sight
unless you just want to put a flip up on it there rather expensive tho

Why not get a flip-up front sight? This is the GG&G unit I am getting for my M4. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v166/Stalker61/item_957_1_lg.jpg

It is kinda pricey at $173.50 and I am sure there are cheaper ones out there, but I like the look of this one.

if it was up to me id leave it on,but if your going to take it off  get a pop up front sight, you never know when your optics might fail on you, and you need a backup

Not using it for combat but don't want it to look stupid either.  Thanks for your 2 cents.

a magpul CTR would make more of a difference than front sight
an its cheaper so then you can buy some mags and ammo

I was wondering about removing the front sight on my new superlight, after I stick a Reflex on it.

Then again I do wonder about some bizzare shit sometimes.

I would not recommend that UNTIL you have an appropriate sized gas block or folding sight in your hands.  The lightweight profile has a much thinner barrel  than the M4 or HBARs use.  So you need a gas block that is built for a 0.60" diameter barrel - not the standard 0.75" gas block.

That's probably the best advice I've had all week, Forest ... thanks.

It's easy enough to knock out the taper pins, pull the sight off the barrel, and replace with a unit like a YHM flip-up or a low-profile gas block if you don't care about back up irons.  If you don't like the flip-up or the low-pro, you can always go back to the front iron.
