Did you mean the M4 cut on the barrel that is used to attach the M203 with or did you mean the feedramps?

Better pic,  looks like an LMT.

OH, those two cuts on the bottom there?  I see people talking about the M4 cuts, just didn't know what this meant.

As you would undoubtedly know, feedramps are cuts that guide the bullet to the barrel. What you see being asked about or discussed and debated on around here are the so called M4 or Colt feedramps.

Normally, feedramps are just cuts on the barrel (extension). Colt however, made the cuts lower to extend to the upper recievers. This makes for more reliability in feeding when using different types of ammo.

If you are familiar with modifications made on barrels of 1911s ... same principle. They call it throating. It makes for a more efficient feeding when using hollowpoints, ball, wadcutters or whatever type of ammo feeds your fancy.

Do you need M4 cuts? Not really. As most ammos will work with the normal cuts without problems.

Given the choice, would you want one? IMO, Yes as it would not hurt to get the extra "insurance" for reliability on any kind of ammo.

Although there are other manufacturers now who offer this option, some guys just have them done by a smith.

they also added these for reliability in FULL AUTO weapons...in a semi you'll be fine

oh and since no one has said it yet

if you have a barrel w/ m4 feed ramps on the extension, you can use an upper receiver with or without the m4 feed ramps.

however, if you have a barrel w/out the m4 feedramps then you should use an upper receiver without the m4 feed ramps

Acutally it's a mint 94 Katana 600, stored 10 years, climate controlled.  1000 miles when I got it.

Damn, I have been REALLY close, several times to getting a Katana.
There is a '99 750 with 8000 miles calling my name for 3K right now.
I'll probably get one after I fix up and sell the ZX6, maybe before I sell the ZX6 so I can decide which one I should keep.

When you are 6'3" and 300lbs, there are not a lot of comfortable sport bikes.

pretty sweet bike. but back on topic, someone mentioned that some gunsmith's can add m4 feedramps to a barrel that does not have them. who is a good companay to do this? I have been drooling over a 6.5 grendel upper, but none of them have m4 feedramps, except for the overpriced sabre.

Try riding a gixxer for a while. You need  to build up them arm muscles, boah!

none of my rifles have them.

never had a problem not having them.

they can't be properly "added" after the fact.  Dremeling isn't the answer here.

As long as we are all over the place and all....you can bolt a similar year GSXR 750cc engine right into the katana 600 frame. Makes one hell of a sleeper, especially if you drop a tooth on the front sprocket

Eventually the frame bends from the added power of the 750 and then the fun ends....ask me how I know
