I have owned a Colt 6920 for over a year now. I am not impressed with the accuracy of this rifle after toying around with various loads. For the folks that do have a Colt 6920 what have your experences with this rifle's accuracy?

Note: I am continplating sending the rifle back to the factory to have the barrel checked out or should I just install a better name barrel?

I always thought it had pretty good accuracy... for a carbine. Maybe you should contemplate a longer barrel if accuracy is your aim?

Tyger, it would probably help to post specifics.  What groups are you shooting, at what ranges with what ammo, what are you expecting from a carbine?

Barrel length has little to nothing to do with accuracy. If your using iron sights then a longer barrel means a longer sight radius which can aid in practical not mechanical accuracy.

My own Colt 6920 is quite accurate. With Federal Match 69 grain ammo it will hold .75 moa. With most FMJ stuff its a 1.5  moa gun.

Let an experienced person try it out...
My 6920 is more accurate than I am!
Or just send it back they will make it right.

I performed accuracy testing of my Colt 6920 upper shooting from a bench-rest at 100 yards using hand-loaded 52 grain Sierra MatchKings.  A Leupold VARI-X III scope set at 25X magnification was used for sighting.

Three 10-shot groups were obtained for analysis that measured as follows:

1.30"
1.36"
1.64".

The three 10-shot groups were overlayed on each other using the RSI Shooting Lab software program to obtain a 30-shot composite group.  The mean radius of the composite group measured 0.41".

Here is a pic of the best 10-shot group as well as a pic of the 30-shot composite group.

My Colt is not even close to 1.5 MOA at 100 yards nor is it at fifty. This is playing with various rounds from 55 grains up to 77 grains. I suspect something is up with the barrel.

How is Colt customer service for warranty on somehting like this?

Mine has been on average a 1.5 MOA AR.  I have never sent an AR back to Colt.  I did send a Colt 1911 back and the were great about getting it fixed and back quickly.

alil off topic but if you send back an LE rifle, will colt even look at it since it is owned by an individual?

Send it to Ken Elmore at Specialized Armament for a lot better service and he is a Colt Authorized repair shop.

But it will be at his expense

I would agree with Glockfan, as SAW is the place for Colt work, but he is not a warranty shop.

Tyger, how many rounds through that carbine? did you inspect the barrel visually? i'm guessing that if the barrel isn't worn out and something was up with it you could notice it visually, i.e. flaked off chrome linning at the muzzle (higly unlikely) or something like that.
Again, what's the round count?.

Folks: I purchase the rifle new out of the box. The round count is over 1,000 of various loads (IE. Winchester, Remingon, Lake City, Black Hills, Radway Green, Adcom, Federal, etc). The rifle is fully seat in sand bags, etc. The barrel (to my eye looks ok) but I am no expert.

Tyger, what are you comparing this to?  Are you/have you shot other ARs that were more accurate for you?  Even shooting from a sandbag requires skill/experience/trigger control.

If you personally are getting dramatically better results, yourself, from another service grade chromelined barrel and the same ammo, then yes, you may have a concern.  It's hard for any of us to confirm that the problem is the barrel, without a reference point on the other variables.

All my Colts (6920, 6520, 6721)have been good for 1.5in at 100yds (slow fire, cold) with Match ammo of appropriate weight; occasionally, like with my 6721, you get one that is significantly better.  Mil surplus will normally spread that to 2-3in.

To compare, I can shoot my Noveske SPR to 0.6in with BH 77gr match, all day every day.
