I am a paramedic who has just joined a SWAT team as the medic. I have a Bushmaster long barreled AR. I am looking for a shorter gun to train with the team. They only have enough M4s for their team and if everyone attends the training we have to switch out. I know nothing about the AR and am looking for advice. Everyone I talk to has a different idea. What I need is suggestions as to whether I should switch out uppers, buy a new gun (if so what), or what should I do? Also where can I learn about the AR and it's variants? Are there good books, etc.? Thanks for any help you can give, Sonny Yates |
First of all, welcome to the site syates. How long of a barrel is your current "long barreled AR"? They won't let you train with it? |
| If you are just training with them to get to know them etc and are not going to use it in an assault type setting you can just get a new upper for it to save a little cash. If money is no big bother for you, get a new M4 type carbine. Most any make or model will do. |

Thanks for the assist. Yeah they will but I like the shorter M4s and would like a trigger that works a little better. I have been advised to get a CAR 15 and have also been advised to fix this one. I don't know anything about reliability or functionality, etc. and was just hoping for good advice. Also any accurate reading material you can suggest would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again |
they use medics on tac response teams incase there is an injury whether it be a team member or hostage/suspect. i've done some role playing w/ a few medics on tac response teams....you guys really gotta multi task it sometimes. i would go w/ a 16" or 14.5" bbl. if you can (legally) go w/ a shorter bbl than that. |
