Sounds like a GUU... almost

Not that it will make a difference in anyone's life, but that's one of my favorite rifles, Your rifle looks great.

It shoots good.  I plan to run it pretty hard to see what I can get to break first.

Cost was actually one of my priorities with this project also.  I wanted to see how cheaply I could build this and still use quality components.

Here is the breakdown of the major components.  Everything was bought off the EE.

Barrel $135
Upper $75
Lower $200
Stock $50
Bolt/Carrier $100
Grips/Handguards $15

So that adds up to $575 if my math is correct.

I also figured out I like building them this way.  The next AR I build (thats a shooter, not a USGI clone) will be built out of used components.  I don't have to worry about beating up on new parts and the rifle will be used anyway, so why not go used to begin with.

Beautiful rifle.
Reminds me of Lumpy 196's
M4/A1 hybrid.

Question:

Is the used bolt + used barrel a problem?  Should you/did you headspace it?
9/2/2006 9:00:31 PM EDT
[#11]
Personally, I really like the old style handguard ring.  It is very low profile with carbine handguards and doesnt poke you in the stomach if you're fat (I'm not saying I am).

The next one I do will be with a CMMG 14.5" LW 1/7 barrel.

No, you don't headspace it.  You check the headspace with gauges.

It headspaced fine with my gauges.

Very nice KISS A1 you have there, their awfully light weight.
Here a pix of mine, fine myself using this one mostly.

This one is also a Bushy lower, colt upper with 14.5 & phantom f/s and 1/7 twist.

Also uses a H buffer, M16 carrier and Colt dual heatsheild handguard,Vltor stock.

PRI latch.

Well I'm A horizontally challenged American and I've never been poked by the handguard ring.  Now the Badger Tactical latch gave me some issues, but never the handguard ring.

Very nice, congratulations.  Now  I'm debating my 20" A2 KISS build, wondering if a KISS MForgery would be a better all around choice.  Let us know when that first part breaks
