I know there are a few of them out there - the .308 AR-10 and the .50 Beowolf - but have any reputable companies seriously considered more calibers than just .223?  Reason I ask is twofold:

1) I don't like .223.  I have a 22 Magnum and a .308, so it falls sadly in the middle of not being a great varmint or big-game round.  I would think a .204 Ruger would be the perfect starting point, but would open the door to other great varmint cartridges: 222 Magnum, 220 Swift, .22-250, .17 Remington, etc.

2) We're doing it all the time making 17's out of 10/22's now... I know, nothing in common, but the thought process started here.  The whole reason for AR-15's - unless you think you're somehow cooler for holding one - is their versatility, light weight, interchangeability, blah blah blah (you guys oughta know this list by heart by now!); I would think adding caliber choices to the platform would make this rifle all that more useful.

So why not?  And without ammo price considerations.
