| I've been out of town for awhile and left all of my weapons properly lubed and secured in my safe. Took my Colt 6920 out today and broke it down for inspection. I was shocked to see rust inside the flash hider. Fortunately it appears to have come off with some rubbing and WD-40. (FP10 and Hoppes didn't budge it). After I pulled my bolt I saw what appeared to be two spots of rust/copper on either side of my chamber just outside the chrome lining. I scrubbed to no avail. I pulled out my Bushmaster just to check and everything appeared normal, no signs of rust or other fouling. I was wondering, since the M4 feedramps have some copper streaks, maybe the spots were marks from bullets feeding into the chamber. The odd thing is the marks are nearly identical, at the 3 and 9 positions. Any ideas? I've never noticed the marks before. |
| Sorry, didn't bust out the digital camera for some marks. Not even sure if the camera would pick them up. Each mark is only about the size of a pinhead. I was really just wondering if it could be ammo related or genuine rust. The good old GI chamber brush and some Q-tips didn't take 'em off. |

Hmmmm. Pretty difficult to tell by your description. It could be rust and could be just fouling. Just be "aware" of the conditions of where you store it next time. Maybe putting those things that absorb moisture in your safe would help. Had a similar experience with my rifle. I was not using it for weeks and just had it stored "in-a-safe-place". Then I noticed one evening that rust was forming on one of the screw heads of mi PRI Folding site! Panick time! Toook it out. Examined it for more "damage". Cleaned it and kept it somewhere else.
