I am conducting a study of barrel length on AR-15s. If you could please visit my poll and check the length closest to yours. Thanks and I will be excited to view the results. |

Sorry I was unable to enter additional lengths for this poll. The forum here limited me to five selections. Maybe the moderators can open us up to additoinal entries - they would provide much greater resolution. A nice normal distribution is forming - thanks again guys! |

You are assuming people only have one AR - not the case with a lot of the people here. I have a 14.5" and a 16" AR but plan to add a 11.5" to the mix but they all serve different purposes. I do not believe in a "do-it-all" AR Some people's rigs come close but there are always compromises. If I had to pick one length as the best compromise between length and capabilities, I would probably pick the 14.5". Because of NFA regualtions, the 14.5" barrels do have some legal issues that have to be worked around and its because of that IMO that you will probably see the 16" barrels as the winner of your poll. 16" is as short as you can go without doing anything special. |
I like your graphic. I guess it depends on what sort of stat dist he wants to do. He could do a non-weighted or weighted, non-weighted would work fine with checkboxes, but weighted you would need numbers. |
A non-weighted stat isn't worth much considering what he appears to be trying to determine. Let's assume that everybody on this site has 3 - 16" carbines and 1 - 11.5" carbine. The poll, as it is setup would indicate that 11.5" ARs are just as common as 16" ARs even though that is not the reality. Just saying is all

I agree - inconclusive results and poor methodology for a scientific poll. I don't think this is meant to be scientific, though. I assume the site isn't set up to yield accurate histogram data using weighted averages (no text boxes or radio buttons for entering numbers for each length), plus, the fact that anyone could (and probably would) lie makes it worse. However, the OP is doing the best he/she can with the given system. I think the results are interesting, though - I didn't realize the 14.5-inchers were so popular - almost as much as the 20" rifles. I just assumed the pinned FH or SBR stamp would run most people off. |
I concur... ![]() (Old pics, but you get the idea. |
