A friend has a Bushy 16" carbine with about 2500 rounds thru it.  The bolt will not feed rounds into the chamber.  It rides about half way over the top round in the magazine, partially feeding the round and hanging up with the round tilting into the barrel extension.  We tried several different reliable magazines, same problem.  It occurs with hand cycled rounds as well.  We next tried different buffers and springs, same thing.  We tried the bolt/carrier out of the Bushy in different rifles, same thing.  We tried different bolts/carriers in the Bushy, no problems.  So, the problem seems to be the bolt/carrier from the Bushy.  There is no noticeable wear on the bolt or carrier, lugs look fine.  Any ideas what the problem is???

take pictures of the mag in the lower, round being jammed, etc....

probably still a mag problem, at least it sounds like it to me. what mags are you using?

We have used Okay, Colt, Brownell's, D&H etc.  Its not the mags, the problem goes away when other bolts are used in that gun.  The problem bolt also exhibits that issue in other reliable guns. The mags also work fine in other guns.  This problem has me stumped.

check your gas key on top if the bolt. if it is loose, it will jam when it reaches the gas tube

That will stop it from locking up for sure.

Or, along the same lines, perhaps the gas tube got a bit bent, and is catching up on the gas key.

Make sure the front of the gas key is still perfectly circular.

Punch out the take-down pin, open the rifle.  Pull the bolt/carrier back just as it would be during recoil.  Tilt the muzzle down and see if the bolt/carrier will slide forward under their own weight until the bolt lugs enter the barrel extension.  Don't expect it to lock.  If it stops or seems to bind before the bolt lugs enter the extension check to see what's stopping/retarding it.  Gas key rubbing the tube?  Burrs?

If the darned thing slides in as advertised, detail strip the bolt and clean it.  Check that the screws holding the key in place are tight.  Check to see if the rings are aligned allowing gas blow-by.  Brass particles in places they shouldn't be?  Firing pin retaining pin damaged or not fully seating so that it sticks out further than it should?

Since other bolts work in that rifle and the "bad" bolt doesn't work in other rifles, it is most likely  the bolt.  hould
