Tried this in the "build" forum... no replies. So, I'll try my luck here. I've decided to build myself an AR, and went and bought a Bushmaster lower. Now I need to decide on my upper strategy. I can just order a Bushy upper-half complete, or build one from scratch. I live pretty close to where Noveske is located and his parts look pretty cool but I don't know whether it is worth the premium. How about Bushmaster receiver and parts and a Noveske barrel and suppressor? This is my first build and it doesn't look to complicated. But it looks like if I build it myself I need to worry about headspacing. How big a deal is that? And also, while I'm at it, what is the story on breaking in the barrel? Thank in advance for the help guys. |

If you're worried about headspacing, then just buy a complete upper from Bushmaster to go with your lower. I'm sure they gauge and headspace their uppers before shipping them. Just keep that bolt with the same barrel and you'll be just fine. Otherwise, you can build whatever you want and take it to a gunsmith to check the headspacing. If your barrel isn't chrome-lined, he might be able to adjust it. If not, it'll just be trial and error with bolts. |
