I have one AR that seems to recoil harder than the others I have of the same length, shooting them back to back and even the lighter guns don't seem to hammer as hard. It broke 1 bolt thru the cam hole area although it was a Model 1 bolt. The buffer spring has been replaced with new std. spring, all are std. rifle buffer, sring and tube. So I have been thinking about going to the Wolf XP buffer spring or a M16 style carrier for more mass to slow the bolt down. Which would be more effective? Anyone try these options separately? TIA for info. |
| Go with the David Tubb Carrier Weight System and FLAT silicon spring, also their extractor and ejector springs as well. They are good for the lifetime of ten AR's! 500,000 cycles. Additionally they will extend the life and smooth out the operation of the existing rifle. It's the way. |
Drilling out the gas port is going to make it recoil even harder. Sounds like one of the guns has a larger gas port and is delivering more gas to the carrier. You could try an M16 carrier but it sounds to me like you need more weight than that to compensate for the recoil. I'd suggest trying a PigTail or FatBoy gas tube for that one to slow down the dwell time. I use them on my carbines and M16 and they do work. Also an Enidine buffer would be a good choise too. |
I think A_Free_Man is asking if the port has been drilled and causing the problem and not saying to drill it. Where is a source for FatBoy or Pig Tail tubes? Thanks. |
