The IDF uses many configurations of the M16 and this picture is only one of them. In the IDF, 11.5 inch Commando's are much more popular, especially among squad leaders. The IDF also fields a DMR version of a Commando, which is tantamount to an 11.5 inch M16A4 as used by the USMC. If you were to research the IDF, you would find that they list the M4 and M16A2 as thier standard issue weapons, but if you were to look at an IDF unit on patrol, you would see M16's in all forms and Galil's.Front line troops are issued M16A4's and M4 carbines, supplemented with Tavors...but the IDF is largely composed of "reserve" units, which use whats availible. Typically, when someone mentiones an IDF Carbine, they are referring to a Colt 653 carbine as "gifted" to the IDF in the 60's. 653's are still in regular use and are ubiquitous with the IDF. If you were looking to build a representitive IDF carbine, I would suggest a 653 style carbine. Interestingly enough, the pictured weapon has a Pardus stock from DPMS. |

I'm not sure there is any "IDF Style" AR as it were. My job takes me to Israel several times a year interacting with Israeli military. In my over 15 years of going in and out of Israel I have notice that there are a lot of different configurations in service just as there is within our own military. There is a good number of M16A1s still in service with the IAF security teams. |
They're too busy killing people that need killing to debate stuff like that on the internet |
Nice. |
Please feel free to inform the IDF that they made a bad choice and selected a less then optimum weapon for their needs. Please post their response here. |
Likely a close quarters entry weapon anyway. As we have seen, they do that all the time (and hopefully will be doing alot more in the future). |
Sigline material right there. |
I own one just like that. Pencil barrel, A1 upper, M4 handguards, telestock. I need a fatter sling though. Gotta love the IDF girls. they'll put you in traction, one way or the other. |
Classic! Free ammo and matzoh for Lumpy! John =========== 6.5 Grendel: Hits with Twice the Lead of 5.56; Shoots Flatter Than 7.62 |
Oh Yes! The land of milk and honey indeed..
|
Dont laugh to hard, they use 22's to shoot rock throwers in the nuts. When your buddy starts bleeding from the crotch, you usually stop what you are doing and get the hell out of there. |
From what I understood they kneecapped people with silenced 10/22s. And I wasn't laughing at the IDF AR-7, just laughing at posting it in this thread... that's my Armalite. |

I've spent some time over there. Lots and lots of A1s. mostly 11" and 14" stuff. A few 20" setups. Skinny little barrels and skinny girls carrying them around. makes sense to me. I saw a few guys with M4 flattops that have 4x ACOGs and a bipod bolted to the handguard. One guy had the fiber optic taped over (probably because of the bright sunlight there). no BUIS. I think its their marksman variant. Coolest rifle I saw was a little Galil carbine with a 7" or so barrel. Tiny little thing with a big 35 round mag sticking out. Also saw a few security guys packing a sidearm with a stock slung over their back. |
I checked the DSG Arms website today and there is no option to buy the original IDF sling so I called them to place an order and they no longer carry the Israeli IDF slings instead they market their "new and improved" IDF style slings. does anybody know of someone who still imports them into the US for sale?? |

Israel Military Industries is launching the new family of the TAVOR assault rifles. http://www.gunsworld.com/gun_ar/graphs/tavor-tar.jpg |
Where can I get enough spare parts to build a redhead like that? |
I don't know who imports the Mar-om Dolphin brand IDF sling that I bought from DSG Arms but I could give you some info links and possible sellers but they are probably not here in the U.S. Mar-om Dolphin website link Authorized Mar-om Dolphin dealer in U.S.A. Israel Military Products website link Zahal website link Good luck. |

We switched to the Blue Force design Jake mainly because of the plastic snap hooks on the Sayaret sling. They work fine when used with paracord, but users were attaching them directly to swivels and they will let go sometimes. Still lots of inquiries though - we may bring another shipment in...

If you want to do a cool IDF build, build an A1 clone with one of the 20" 1/7 twist A1 profile barrels Colt made for the IDF. Wait. Don't. If you find one of those barrels just pass on it and let me know where it's at! As for the side-plot in this thread - it cracks me up the way people freak out when they see real world combat users utilizing anything other that what www.badassfuckingtacticalshit.com sells and assures them is THE choice of the Special Forces, Navy SEALS, and Marine fucking Space Command. The sad part is I could probably post pics of a dozen different combat used A2s, A4s, and M4s on here under the title of "check out my new build" and get laughed off the board for having such a "stupid," "cheap," and "ineffective" weapon.

A few years back, there were announcements to the effect that Barrett (yes - THAT Barrett) was going to handle the import & sales of a semi-auto version of the Tavor. Anyone know what happened to that deal? I would love to own one. And now, the wicked AWB is dead. |
I'm not doubting it's not a good sling I plan on picking up three for rifles I have I like the metal ring attachments! But I need some IDF slings for some builds of mine. |
|
We did get more of the Israeli IDF slings in (Tan, black and OD). Only a few hundred in stock, but more coming (as the war allows). About half way down our slings page
|
Barrett Dropped the Idea, however someone here has been talking with an importer and IMI to get something going, there was a thread looking for support to convince them to go through with it... ETA: Heres a link- www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=2&t=202081 |

As a few others have posted, there are all kinds of ARs in service w/the IDF, because basically the Israelis never throw anything away. The closest I can figure to there being a particularly "Israeli" AR would be a 14.5 inch carbine, w'the earlier featherweight type barrel, on either an A1 or what we usually refer to as a C7 type upper, with an A1 profile lower and the earlier Fiberlite type buttstock. These are pieces that Israel bought complete from Colt; while the M4 barrels, uppers, etc were largely built up replacenment pieces. BTW, an Israeli friend tells me that the really short barrelled pieces, like the 11.5 inchers, are considered prestiege (sp?) issue weapons. Sort of makes you a hot shot badass, while a 20" barrelled M16A1 means you're a newbie type. Kind of the reverse of the length men usually consider hot stuff, huh? |
why does it look like the area above the trigger finger has been photoshopped , and there is no sear or other pins in that receiver? there is not hammer pin viewable but it should be right next the the mag release also there appears to be a photoshopped over "ghost of a pin way too far back to be the hammer pin and too forward and high to be the trigger pin
|
Woah. It does look photoshopped. Look on the top edge of the trigger finger... |
SNAP! |
| You can get Israeli accessories to go with your Israeli build at www.zahal.org/rifle/. I'm not affiliated with them, but I've done business with them in the past and have nothing to complain about. |
Very true. |
This whole thread is pretty amusing, but that one cinched it. |
I see what you mean about all the different configurations.
|
VERY TRUE! Some people build to see how much shit they can fit on their AR. Just the way it is though.hinking.gif |
