| Can the CAR short buffer and spring (normal specs on both) be used in a full-length rifle (A1 upper and stock/tube)? Or must I get the rfile buffer assembly and spring? I only ask 'cause a rifle length extension tube came on my 9.5 inch upper (no stock attached though, obviously) and it had the CAR buffer and spring in it from the factory. Thanks. |

Not sure I understand much else of your post. I have a 9.5 inch pistol upper that came from the factory with the rifle-length receiver extension (buffer tube) and this indicated to me that a rifle buffer and spring might be inside. What was inside instead was a CAR spring and buffer, again, from the factory. That led me to think that maybe since the CAR buffer will work on the 7.5 inch pistols to 16 inch carbines then the CAR buffer and spring (in the rifle extension tube) might work on the 20 inch barrel rifle also. What I am trying to ascertain is if having the CAR buffer and spring in a rifle extension tube on a 20 inch rifle upper will cause any failures or damage. I just want to make sure I don't cause any damage to my new 20 inch A-1 upper or bolt . I am talking about the entire recoil buffer assembly here, not just the buffer. What I propose is that I can use my CAR spring and buffer assembly in the rifle buffer tube (in which it came from the factory) with my 20 inch rifle upper. |
| I think I got it here. The tube, now that I've pulled it out of the closet is only 7 inches long (not including the forward threading). That is not a rifle buffer tube is it? And the springs are all 11 inches uncompressed. Ah well, you can tell my experience is not with ARs. So, what is the length of the standard rifle tube? Oh, and I can shoot my 20 inch upper with the CAR stock,, tube and spring, right? |
