OK. So I put together a Bushy DCM Lower with the Bushy match 2 stage and a bushy 20" Gov't 1/7 upper. First time out I went to a local range and shot it open sights. I was getting prolly about 6 moa (range goes to 50 yards) with surplus XM193. I figured it was the fact that it is incredibly dark in there and I couldn't get a good sight picture. So I have been obsessing about this for a while thinking maybe my upper is junk (accuracy wise that is...function for about 130 rounds was flawless). So I quickly ordered one of the 50 dollar RRA scope mounts for 1" tubes and put an old 50 dollar tasco on top (not the brightest glass I would say) to take out the variable of bad open sight picture. Anyway, just got back from the range and this is what I was getting: about 1 and 1/2 inch groups at 50 yards with XM193 and the scope cranked up to 9 power. Now the shooting rest was just a crappy 8 inch wide shooters bench (indoor range BTW) and I was sitting in a chair and hunkering down trying my best to stabilize sight picture. I would say I was shaking the sight picture about 1 inch at 50 yards because of the awkward postiion (they won't let you go prone there). So are 1 and 1/2" groups good at this range with this situation? (and, yeah, I know I need to sandbag it at an outdoor range for a real test had Well I just needed some input to reassure me until I can get to a real range. Thanks in advance. |
Seriously? I haven't shot 500rds through my Recon upper yet... I had a few nice groups at 50yds today... I can't wait to break my rifle in and see what she does. I thought it was 100rds for break in. BTW, you sound like you need to practice more gr33n7. For some reason, that reminds me.... of me. -X |

Thanks for the responses. I wasn't clear in my post but I am a very competent shooter with glass. I was just wondering if what amounts to better than 3 MOA at 100 yards (I say better since I was shaking on the crappy rest so much) with M193 was decent. If I was prone I'm sure it woulda been 2 or 1.5 moa. Now I know that is good accuracy with open sights but with glass and a match trigger I was thinking it should be better. It's really a stupid question until I take out the shaking/crappy rest variable. Sorry for wasting your time: just needed reassurance my new rig wasn't messed up...I just Googled it and it seems like that is OK with surplus XM193. I just need to find a good outdoor range here in NC to get some real data on my setup. Thanks again. |
I don't think one hole at 50yds and 1/4" at 100yds is very realistic with XM193. With match ammo, yes. TS |
i shoot reloads. i guess you could call them match quality or maby better but if your looking for accuricy RELOAD. you can load them to any specs that you want. hell you could even find the xm193 bullets somewhere and stick them into your own reloads and they'll be ten times better and customized to you and your rifle |
I agree. I was just refering to his question on his accuracy with his setup and ammo. I plan on being ready to reload within a year. TS |

tigerstripe: sorry if i got off the topic a little and i am glad to hear that your going to start reloading. start as soon as you can, and you don't need all of these expensive rcbs presses; a lee press will do you just as good and will allow you to get more reloading supplys BTW: sorry again i got off topic a little |

I don't think you got too far off topic. You brought up another important topic while "getting off topic". Now he knows he isn't a horrible shot, but can use practice just like the rest of us and that reloading can help him out with a load to make him capable of making truly great shots. My brother and I are going to go together and buy the reloading equipment, press, dies, tumblers, etc. We have many years worth of brass to load. Now, I've gone off topic. Sorry, gr33n7! TS |

I think you should get at best 1 1/2 to 2 inch groups consistatly at 100 with a decent rifle. I have found XM 193 to be by far the most accurate of the military or made for civilian ammo. It shoots much better than Q3131 which I have never had much luck with even back in the late 80's. JR |

This is a comparison of ammo w/ iron sites at 100yds. (my 1st range sess. w/ this weapon). The xm193 isn't real accurate, just accurate enough.http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b48/jsnappa/IMG_0333.jpg |
