replaced the oem stock on my RRA with a magpul. Now when I shoot the noise coming from the stock is louder....i believe it is the spring? First, am in correct in assuming that this is the source of the noise? Second, to fix this is it possible to only replace the original spring with one that is larger in diameter? Thanks for helping the newb.

wipe the inside of the buffer tube and spring with breakfree clp and it will help you don't need to change the spring.

You can't go to a bigger outside diameter...a CAR action spring is the size, length, etc..that it is for a reason.  You can go to an "extra power" spring which has either been altered by changing the diameter of the wire or by changing the coil structure...both of which are used to change the collapse and rebound rate of the spring.  That, in turn, can effect the function of your rifle...felt recoil, rate of fire, rebound of the carrier forward, release time on the carrier when opening (which is back to the rate of fire issue as well), etc...
More than anything, your difference in perceived spring sound is probably due to a difference in stock material and the potential for a difference in the sonic insulating effect of the different materials.
