Just thought I would introduce myself. I have been reading the threads for a while and will be posting some pics as soon as I can of my Bushmaster XM15 E2S. I just purchased the firearm and am wanting to put a scope on it as well as some other features. I primarily use the firearm for the coyotes around my property. Sometimes that is at night and I was hoping that somebody could point me in the right direction for a good day/night scope that is good for around a 2-300 yard range. Thanks for the help ahead of time. ~drake~ www.dream-loic.com www.dfrequency.com www.dream-logic.com/epk |

Welcome dfrequency! Those day/night scopes aren't cheap. In fact many will run more than the bushmaster it sits on But if you like, check out ------>the night vision forums But 'low-light' options are more reasonable and can run the gamut of price and quality enjoy your AR, and the site! (Wish I lived somewhere I could hunt coyotes on my property) |

Seydou... I checked out the scope you mentioned and it gets great reviews. I appreciate the suggestion. I'm going to see where to get them here in the Albuquerque area. If not do you or anyone else have any suggestions? I'm thinking about going down to the Sportsmans Wearhouse but I do wanna know if there are cheaper versions that are just as good as expensive ones they will most likely try to sell me. Thanks again everyone for the kindness. ~drake~ |
Mueller does not advertise which is one way they keep prices low. Nor do many places carry them. I ordered mine direct. Good folks and great service. Plus the prices for the glass you get are well worth it. Seydou |

Sportsmans Wearhouse is telling me that it's gonna end up costing me around 500 bucks for their cheaper scopes and the mounts as well as mounts and a bipod. I'd rather order direct. If you have a link that would be great. Or a number. Please be patient with me. I am green when it comes to rifles. I see all the guns on here and I go "I want that and that and that and can you paint it like that really? how?"... I just have no clue where to get the parts other than on Bushmasters site. |
WELCOME I have a Bushmaster Shorty that I will put my life on. Bushmaster is a GREAT START!! GOOD FOR YOU For shooting Dogs a 3x9 is what I used at night time I would call for them useing my shot gun with #4 buck If I had NV that would be cool Good Luck |

Welcome to BRD. If you have a question, we have a forum for it in most cases. Just do some looking and you will probably find a sticky or FAQ on it. When you are looking at buying something, research it in the appropriate area, and then look for a vendor in the Industry section or even the EE. Lots of good deals, and the asshats usually get run off pretty quick. Ask questions about something and you will most likely get a ton of feedback due to the large number of users on Arfcom and the wide range of experience, use, and budget. For your immediate question, I have used an ACOG for exactly what you iare ntending to use your rifle for. They are not cheap, but they are about the best scope in that class for that use. |

+1 to what Stickman posted about the vendors here on ARFCOM. For Mueller try Mueller Optics I got the 4-16X50 Tactical with the illuminated mil-dot reticle, and then used Warne ultra high QD rings to clear my BUIS. Sorry I can not help you with the bipod question as I do not use one. That info is here though, just search. Good luck and welcome! Seydou P.S. A gratuitous pic of my varmint/target rig

| Seydou that is exactly the scope I was looking at! Great looking scope and firearm! Thanks for the pic. I'll check out that link now and see how to order it. I assume they will have the mounts as well? I just looked and they don't seem to have the mounts on the site. I guess Sportsmans Wearhouse will have em. Thanks again! |
I seriously doubt that SW will have the mounts. I got them at E. Arthur Brown Co. Other places might have them and there are certainly other mounts that may work for you as well. Especially if you do not need ultra high mounts to clear a BUIS. I do like QD mounts for transport and to be able to screw around with irons on this rifle once in awhile. FWIW these particular mounts retain zero very well. I know it is hard, but be patient, do your research, and in the long run you will spend less money, and get a better product. Seydou ETA: You might also look at some mounts that push the scope further forward (ie LaRue) if eye relief is an issue. They make great stuff but it comes with a price. |

Thank you all for the info. I'll be checking into it today too. Also thanks for all the kind welcome's. I appreciate it. Does anyone know on these forums how to find folks in your particular area? Or is that bad? I don't know and it is a green question I know... I wouldn't mind finding some folks out here in the high desert to go shooting with and socializing with. ha. I just found the "hometown" link. glad it wasn't a snake. |

Well I ended up getting a Leupold 3x9x40. I'll post some pics or some links here in the next couple of days. The scope got the best reviews for the money. I also got some Rock Mount bi-pods as well. I'm going to have to mill down the front site unless there is a better idea.?.?.? Thanks again everyone. I done cought the bug. Worse than building my bike. |

They told me to at Sportsmans Wearhouse. I had it installed and they "semi sighted" it in. When I got to my land I took it out and I couldn't see the stock front sight through the scope. Just a very VERY small hue. It was actually very clear like it wasn't there. I'll probably be taking some pics in a day or so of it. I left the camera at my studio. That brings up another question... Does the photo just have to be of a gun or can you have people in it or any kind of non offensive backgrounds like a studio or what not? |
| I would say they are tards, and you've already seen why. With high mag optics the scope will actually look "around" the sight tower. At lower powers you will see more of a ghost image, but even then it's not that big of a deal. I've got an ACOG that I use behind a conventional tower on an A4 upper and you get a slight shadow going up the lower vertical reticle. Nothing to worry about. |
| I went out this weekend and shot about 200 rounds through it and at 200yds this scope/firearm combo is just plain accurate! I went out to 300 and it was pilot error when I missed. I do want to get a lighter trigger pull. Also I had no problems with the stock site still on it. Didn't even know it was there. |
|
A lot of people who have never looked through an optic with the stock FSB on think that it obstructs the FOV. If you are using a low power optic there will be a shadow. Some people freak out over it. Even on the 4x ACOGs it's not that big of an issue. Glad you had the chance to shoot it, hope you have fun with it. ETA: for the trigger, if you don't want to drop the coin on a match grade unit but want to improve the feel check out the upgrade RRA two-stage from ADCO. |
|
Thank you for the info m24shooter. I'll look it up today. I'm still just shocked at how accurate the firearm was at 1,2 and 300 yards! If there was a miss it was because of the heavy trigger pull and operator error. Otherwise it was litterally a thrill to fire! Very happy with my Bushmaster! |
