I'm thinking about getting rid of my RRA R4 upper in favor of a nice simple A2 upper with a superlight 16" barrel.  This one is not going to be used with optics or any fancy do dads that I don't need.

I wanted to stick with RRA since that's the lower it will go on, but that doesn't look like an option.  I'm surprised that all of their barrels are a heavy profile.  Would it be worth getting a RRA A2 carbine upper from ADCO and having them turn the barrel down to the profile of a Colt 6520 barrel?  For those that have gone the lightweight route, what would you recomend here?

I have one of these & it is an excellent lightweight upper IMHO.

or buy a bushmaster SLW upper

I think both DPMS and Bushy would be cheaper than have a RRA A2 upper turned down to 6520 profile

+1 - If you won't use optics, keep it simple and shave off a couple more ounces by ordering it with Bushmaster's "A1" (C7) upper.  How often will you use the A2 sight on a 16" carbine, anyway?

You mean something like like this?

pkfirearms.com/store/get_item.aspx?id=680&action=display

I've got the A1/C7 uppers in stock too, they make great iron sighted carbine rigs.

In stock & you could have it in 3-4 days, quick enough to go shooting this weekend

No, like this:

He said "This one is not going to be used with optics or any fancy do dads that I don't need."  He doesn't need the A2 sight or a rail, IMO.  Bushmaster's A1 upper is a couple ounces lighter than the A2 and about the same weight as a flattop with one of the lightest rear BUISs.

If you order the Superlight upper from bushmaster, they will build it with the "A1" upper if you want.

No!  He wants the one like this!

CATEGORY: Upper Receivers

Yeah, I have them, it is just not in the barreled upper picture because I sell far fewer A1/C7 uppers compared to flat tops & A2s.  Plus, it's nearly impossible to get 3 barreled uppers into a 500x400 pixel image for the website.  But I still have the A1/C7 uppers in the upper option box labeled "receiver".

If all you've got is irons, you probably want an easier elevation than farting around with the front sight.

Go A2 man or flat top with A2 picatinny rear sight.
