Anyone out there have any experience with the DPMS LR-308 AP4 that was named Rifle of the Year by American Rifleman magazine? I've got a dealer here in town who says he can get me one for $950 + tax. Is this a fair deal? Are the mags for this rifle proprietary or do M14/AR10 mags work?

I know this forum is for AR15 talk. I looked in the AR10 forum and didn't see anything mentioning DPMS products, and I haven't seen a DPMS forum. Anyway my apologies for the out of place post.

The DPMS gun uses the same mag design as the sr 25, so AR 10 mags won`t interchange. The price you were quoted sounds fair. As for forums, you`ll may find what you need in the Variants forum, or the DPMS forum on the Industry page. I believe one of their employees responds there on a regular basis or did in the past. HTH

That's a great price on the AP4.  I would buy that in a heart beat.

The AP4 has a great track record. Check the AR Variants forum as they're talked about quite often.

The LR308 magazines are cheaper and are used in more 308 AR's than the AR10 magazine.

$950 is a great price. Nearest dealer for me that has one wants $1150.

My buddy has a DPMS LR .308 24" and it is a sweet shooter. I like it better than my other friends Armalite AR10.

As stated before the DPMS AP4 will use Stoner SR25 mags not modified M14 mags like Armalite.

DPMS has plenty of 10 and 20 round mags in stock for around $40.

I had the opportunity to get a test and evaluation AP4 for an article I wrote for SAR. I have to say the carbine I had was very nice. I fired over 500 rounds through it in one afternoon without a single malfunction. The carbine was solid, not sloppy at all. I do not believe you will find too many interchangable parts between any of the other manufacturers. Their bolt carrier group was very nicely made. They developed their own buffer, much shorter than the standard carbine buffer. Recoil was light compared to most of the weapons in that class. Two thumbs up from my tests. Just my .02 cents.

Thanks guys. Think I'll give the dealer a call today and put one on order. Can't wait, I've been wanting an AR style .308 for a while but haven't had the guts to pull the trigger (pun intended).

Yep, I've got one and wouldn't give up. AP4 308 is a keeper in my book and will shoot with the best of them IMHO. Price you got seems to be right on the money also. Here's my AP4 LR308.
