I'd like to see a 16" middy w/ GTS Recce barrel and F-marked FSB!

Everyone is out of BCM 16" middy barrels, so the GTS Recce seems like the next best choice!

this is not mine. it's from an italian member of this site and it's an oberland arms

edit to add: just noticed this....if both rifles posted by cgv69 and me are middy, how come that the bayo ring touch the FH in 2 different place?

cgv69, the rifle in your pic isn't a middy, is it?

Yes, the rifle I posted is a middy (RRA to be specific) and where the bayo sits on the FH is the norm. This is a known "issue" (if you want to call it that?) with how bayo's mount on Middy's. Middy's were designed by Armalite. RRA and everybody else (so I thought) just followed the same spec.

Below is a pic of how a bayo should fit (as seen on a 14.5" Colt). From what I've seen and read, your friend's middy is the odd ball in this case. Not only because of how the bayo fits but also because of the M4 style step down in front of the FSB. That cut is designed to allow you to mount an M203. I've never seen a middy barrel with that stepdown cut and there is a reason for that. An M203 would not fit on a middy barrel, at least not with the step down cut where it is on that barrel.

Do you know if that is an Oberland Arms barrel? Apparently whoever made that barrel decided it would make sense to make it a tad longer to make the length of the barrel in front of the FSB match the length of the 14.5" carbine and 20" rifle barrels?

yes that's a complete Oberlan rifle (we can't build rifles like you do in USA). as for the M4 style step down, that only for look I guess since it's impossible to mount a M203.

so that oberland doesn't have a middy gas system nor a carbine gas system, does it?

I wouldn't say that. Carbine, Middy or rifle refers to the length of the gas system. Specifically how far the gas port\FSB is located from the receiver. It has nothing to do with the length of the barrel. Carbine barrels are typically anywhere from 10.5" to 16" long. They all have their gas port on the barrel located in the same place, meaning they all use the same gas tube and handguards but what changes is how much barrel is out in front of the FSB.

I've seen 14.5", 16" and 18" barrels with mid-length gas systems. In this country, 16" barrels are actually usually 16.1". My guess is Oberland made their barrel 16.2" or there abouts in order for a bayo to fit exactly the way it is supposed to.
