What manufacturer of complete rifle's has the highest quality on a consistant basis. Fit Finish parts I'm trying to make a decision on a purchase in a few days. |
For function SLR15 |
If those items are important to you, you will need to go to a store and hand select the one you want. |
+1 I have had my share of rifles. I do like Colt's Bushmaster RRA STAG for starters. You can't go wrong. Max |
If you play with it it'll get all bashed up anyways. Oh dings show up more on colt grey than on lmt black, that I know for sure! ![]() edit I agree you need to hand select it you want a really nice looking AR. they can vary by finish and appearance among brands. I am surprised to see someone say lmt, we used to get lots of appearance and finish complaints about them. Mine looks nice but I did have a gas ring crap out pretty fast and my lmt rear sight was out of spec. |
| Some people will swear when they hear me say this: Gunsmoke Enterprises has proabably the best standard finish. I have never been so impressed. Now, if you get it with LCW duracoat, then all bets are off. As far as accuracy, I will yield the floor to others since my only experience is Colt, Bushy, and RRA. |
You failed to mention "Function"? Are you going for purty? Colt,BM,CMT,LMT not in any particular order...I think that about covers it.

Does LMT sell fully built rifle's ? or only parts I know it's going to get dinged and scratched, but I want a decent rifle in an M4 configuration. Reliability and accuracy are the most important. I'm leaning towards either STAG or RRA at the moment. Bushmaster is third choice. |

Bushmaster seems to be better finish and quality overall than Stag or RRA. LMT is top tier and produces some of the finest rifles I've seen. What's more is that they are 100% milspec whereas Bushmaster, RRA, are not. This would matter to you only if you plan on switching out stocks to a VLTOR, SOPMOD, etc. Also, the Front Sight on LMT's are milspec which will work with BUIS'. Bushy and RRA do not have milspec front sight posts and need to have them replaced in order to line up with your BUIS. BTW: my AR is a bushmaster lower with replaced milspec buffer tube and LMT SOPMOD Stock with an LMT 14.5" Upper (perm. attached FH). |
Yeah, the finish on some Colts is just terrible. Some just look like somebody turned a hammer loose on them, with dings and tool marks everywhere. Colts are great rifles, but I don't think they are the best looking. Of the rifles I've seen, RRA and CMMG seem to have the nicest fit and finish. My CMMG looks near perfect.... Just my $.02.... |
I think you have to buy an LMT upper and lower separately. They have some goofy aversion to civilians buying both parts at the same time, or at least used to. You can probably save the excise tax anyways by doing that though.Stag and Bushmaster are superior to RRA. Check the barrel steel and profile of the barrels.RRA has improved dramatically and a are good, economical choice though. Any of the three will probably be more accurate than most shooters can take advantage of short of sandbagging and scoping the carbine. Good luck. |

RRA= Dremmeled in feed ramps, ( and usually not a very good job of it), HBAR profile barrels, non spec extruded receiver extensions, 4140 barrel steel, incorrect front sight height Bushmaster= incorrect front sight height, taper pins for front sight usually drilled to far up into barrel steel, BAD problem of canted front sights, non milspec extruded receiver extension, good barrel steel 4150 Stag Arms= Correct receiver extension, correct height front sight, 4140 barrel steel, quality from example to example is usually very consistent If you can't find a stag, go with an S and W M and P 15, good rifle, made by stag for S and W. |
I think the S&W recently got some craptastic reviews on fit and finish here recently... |
