Just got my second AR, an Ameetec M-4. Have been having some weird ejection patterns so I went to switch out the b/c and charging handle from my Bushy and could not get the charging handle to go in. B/c fit fine. Got home and compared the two charging handles and the Bushy charging handle has slightly longer guide rails on the bottom than the Ameetec one. It eventually went in but it took some effort and really didn't want to come out afterwards. The Ameetec charging handle which has slightly shorter guide rails goes in with no effort at all. What gives??? BTW- The Bushy charging handle goes in my Bushy rifle easily. |
Welcome to the world of aftermarket parts.![]() Colt and Bushmaster build their stuff to the original specs. I've noticed that at least two other brands, DPMS and Prairie River, make their charging handles a bit narrower, with slightly different shaped nibs than the milspec people; and what you've posted seems to indicate that the list is now up to three. There are probably a lot more brands w/the off spec handles out there; since I suspect that most of the different brand pieces are all coming out of the same plant. In the DPMS case, you have to use one of the narrower handles; because thewy had a run of C7 profile uppers awhile back that were undersized internally. They reamed the bolt/carrier channel so they'll take a standard unit; but didn't touch the channel for the cocking handle; so a GI spec handle will barely go in, and can't be pushed forward. The aftermarket pieces will all work just fine in the Colt, Bushie, Rock River, and Stag uppers, which are milspec internally, but as you've found out, the reverse isn't neccessarily true.
