I was wondering if anyone does any reloading for their ARs.  I just got my second and always need more ammo and I don't know if reloading would really save much money. I know there are probably many pros and cons but I wanted to get some opinions and see how many actually reload.  I figure I pay around  .20-22 cents per round for good brass cased ammo like the American Eagle AE223.

Thanks

If you buy in larger quantities, you'd get much better prices on that AE and on some of the Q loads out there.

I reload, but every round gets weighed, every case gets weighed, and every charge gets weighed.  For all my efforts, I think some of the production stuff will perform just as well with regard to accuracy at longer ranges.

you can buy processed cases for pretty cheap.

It's not to difficult to load 1000 of your own.

get a decent powder throw, and you will have ammo as accurate as any bulk or surplus loading.

I think the consensus is that for plain ol' ammo is cheaper to buy than handload considering labor.  On the other hand; if the goal is accuracy, you would be lucky  if a commercial round gave best performance and it will not be cheap.

Some of us actually enjoy the process of developing and building our custom cartridge loads.

I'm really just use what I would consider plinking ammo.  Not really looking for super accurate stuff.  I spend a ton of time online and it seems that for decent brass cased .223 ammo it is $200-$249 per 1,000 rds.

i don't shoot from a bench anymore - rarely at least.  i reload for the capability - saving my brass, etc.
i can work up very accurate loads for my bushmaster but mostly i just plink - have done some training.  i just like to shoot, so i usually go for the cheaper factory stuff for just bang.

when i used to shoot highpower, i reloaded because it was cheaper and more accurate than buying match ammo.

i look at my capability for reloading my 5.56 as a hedge against future shortages - supply issues and gov't interference.  at least i can produce some of my own.

By buying bulk compenents I can reload AR ammo for about 14 cents a round.  Buying Surplus or bargain ammo runs about 20 to 25 cents a round.  I'm never in need of brass because my local range has various LE offices come in during the week and they never pick up their brass, most of which is commercial brass.  Sure it takes time but I'd rather be doing that at night then watching forgettable TV show.Sam
